FYI for those with kids who have applied/or were accepted this cycle. In the past, upon acceptance, you were asked to confirm your major, and could change from your application major to any other major offered by Georgia Tech. I have heard this year that has changed. Only those who have applied to and were accepted as CS majors will be able to confirm a CS major upon acceptance.
Because computer science has so many applicants and class spaces are limited, I imagine this was implemented to try to control the number of computer science students needing entry level classes. FYI.
We are OOS, and my S24 came home today and said one of his close friends got into GT and showed the acceptance email. The boy is definitely OOS but would be a viable candidate - National Merit and all, but I can’t figure out how he would have been sent an acceptance in mid-December?
Does GT do Questbridge? Or is it possible he could be considered a in-state student if he has divorced parents and one of them lives in Georgia?
I just looked and no Questbridge. He has been a student at our private high school several states away since he was a freshman. I’m doing a deeper dive - he would be considered a URM.
If his parents (or a parent as mamomto4 said) live in GA, then he would still qualify for in-state. Plenty of GA in-state kids at boarding schools across the country.
I agree. The student must be in state. GT does not provide early decisions except in mid Jan to those who are invited to interview for their full ride scholarships.
Students still have to confirm major. Here’s the CS change info:
Create an Application for Changing Majors to Computer Science
The Institute is exercising its right as indicated in the Catalog policy that addresses the Change of Major to place conditions on the BS in Computer Science program. This is due to high demand for the BS in Computer Science major. First-year students who are admitted Summer 2024, Fall 2024 and beyond will not have the option to change their major to the BS in Computer Science and must plan accordingly. Continuing students, admitted prior to Summer 2024, will follow the existing Computer Science process for changing their major.
This does not apply to 2024 first-year applicants who applied with a primary major in Computer Science and were admitted. It also does not apply to continuing students.

Must be a situation of divorced parents. We have dropped him off at home so I know someone lives here.
Does he have a parent that lives in state? If not, it is either fake or he was misclassified. It is possible that athletic recruits have already received notice as well so maybe he is that? It’s crazy but kids do fake this stuff.
Right. Everybody has to confirm a major when they accept. Until this year you could apply as biology and when you confirmed your major and paid your deposit you could put computer science and there was not a problem. You could then switch your major again for free prior to earning 60 hours. So basically, you could apply as one major, switch to a different major when you accept and pay deposit and switch to a third major, without any question or penalty. Now in order to put computer science as your major confirmation upon acceptance, you have to be accepted into computer science.
Although I don’t have a clear answer on this yet, it sounds like they are also eliminating the ability to transfer into computer science, which until now has been freely available. The quoted portion above certainly seems to indicate that conclusion.
Is it possible to do CSS after acceptance? Or should we do it before
What day did early action 2 decisions come out last year?
Are there typically any changes to portals, some portal astrology stuff?
