My son was also admitted for MATSE! Is your son likely to attend? Mine is.

So the Provost scholorship is given at the time of admittance or do they release them later? @VirginiaBelle do you know?

Update: In past threads they said 2 weeks after the acceptance but their site says along with financial aid Provost Scholarship | The Office of Scholar Programs.

What if sudent does’t qualify for any financial aid?

I think it used to be two weeks after acceptance, but it looks like they may have changed that. I think there are about 40 Provost scholars. That will bring out of state tuition down to in-state levels.

From what I understand from out of state students the majority do not receive financial aid and are self-pay.

On the day of admission, at 8PM EST, there was another decision about the Stamps President’s and Gold Scholars Semifinalists. We were not part of that. Is this Provost different from those two? Trying to find some hope for some aid.

Provost is different than Stamps and Gold Scholar semifinalist notification (There will be 100 total stamps and gold scholars.)

There are typically about 40 Provost scholarships, website says notification typically with the financial aid package.

The applicants who receive these awards often have Ivy+ acceptances, the competition is tough for OOS students to get merit aid at Tech.

Sorry, please do not expect any FA help
99% of OOS students are full pay

Got it. Thanks.

Business Deans semifinalist interviews have been sent out (did not get stamps semi so this is nice to see)

Yes! he is very enthusiastic about GT
he is likely to attend

Mostly agree based on one kiddo there and surveying landscape. For what its worth, his roommate freshman year got a full ride and had nominal stats
uncertain but was a band kiddo or maybe for some reason fell into just the right niche where an OOS got a full ride
but as I type this I think I’m slanting towards fully agree b/c basically this kiddo was/is the 1% you’re likely referencing. Ha!

Please ask GT to stop asking OOS CSS Profile then, time and application fee well wasted .

Any perspectives on comparison between GT Comp Sci and UT Austin Comp Sci / Turing program?

Not much difference in general between the two CS programs unless your student is set for a narrowed direction where you might find strength in a particular school.

Go with your home school choice and use the saved money for other purposes.

Turing is a hype, it may sharpen the student brain a bit more with some harder courses, like all these programs everywhere else, program itself does not produce sizable differences alone, the difference comes from student effort.

They send to everybody. It is just an automated reminder sent from their software. Fine to ignore.

Does anyone know whether applying to the GT Honors Program is worth it? Apparently they put students in the same dorm or something like it.

In regards to financial aid for out of state, the reason we encouraged my son to apply was due to the net price calculator giving an approximate aid of $12,480, bringing the cost down to $36,878. With this aid, GT is affordable for us, without this aid, GT is not affordable for us. The NPC is incredibly vague and doesn’t ask anything about academics for merit, but I did choose the highest income bracket of “Over $99,000” when I received this result, which I just recreated again. On the NPC, the $12,480 is described as “Includes both merit and need based grant and scholarship aid from Federal, State, or Local Governments, or the Institution” My son is not a finalist for the stamps and provost scholarships.

Now we are in an uncomfortable situation where he is really excited about his acceptance and wants to visit GT (along with Purdue, his other finalist where he did get a merit scholarship) over spring break to make his decision, but it looks like the aid packages won’t be out until the beginning of April. I am hearing about we should not count on any aid whatsoever, which would have been fine if the NPC didn’t just give it to us, which encouraged the application! That’s frustrating to me. I hate to spend the time and money to visit GT, only for him to fall in love with it and for us to not be able to afford it. I guess we just visit Purdue and if GT happens to give us the aid, then we try and rush a quick last minute visit?

OOS folks were told to not expect any merit from GT. We are in the same boat. Our S did not make the President Stamps and Gold scholars semifinalist. I don’t think the Provost scholarships are out yet. Did you get an email that you did not get Provost Scholarship?

No, we did not. Sorry I was confusing those since he was not chosen as a finalist for the first scholarships. I guess I just don’t understand why the NPC is giving virtually everyone aid, if what I’m reading here is that it’s very rare to get it. I feel that other school’s NPC’s error on the side of NOT giving aid so the number is more realistic, however GTs is maybe providing a bit of false hope? Well we will just keep hoping that something pans out at this point so we can make it work!

DD OOS just graduated. We have never been asked to file anything (FAFSA or CSS by GaTech). I have heard that instate students were asked to file FAFSA.
