Hello, I am currently a freshman, and today we received our final grades for semester two. I received 5 As, and a D+ in my art, Photography. I immediately spoke to my teacher about a grading error, as I went from a 88% to a 67%, yet she cannot raise the grade at all, for reasons I’m not going to get into. Hearing this terrible news, I started to panic, and broke down outside the room for a few minutes. Following that, I went to my counselor who told me I have the option of remediation on that second semester, which would calculate my GPA with the new grade. However I have some questions.
Do colleges look down on remediation?
Next year, would my new grade only go towards my Freshman 2nd semester, changing the number of classes I took as a sophomore, or would it count as an A for both semesters
Do I still have a chance at going to UCLA, UC Berkeley, or UCSD with the remediation?
Talk to your GC about what it means for your gpa.
I don’t think they would look down on remediation for art as a freshman.
Figure out what the issue was and how to prevent it in the future.
If you think she is incorrect, talk to your GC about the issue.
Also, I dont think UCs really worry too much about your freshman grades:
In calculating the GPA for admission consideration, UC uses all UC-approved “a-g” courses a student took between the summer before 10th grade through the summer following 11th grade. Additionally, UC will grant up to eight semesters (with no more than four semesters coming from 10th grade) of honors weight for grades of C or better in AP, IB, UC-approved Honors Level, and transferable college courses.
