My plan is to double major in Biology and Commerce. I need to get into BIOL 2010/2030 this year for things to work out. I am on the waitlist for both sections in positions 19 and 11. Do I have a chance of getting into either of those?
And how does the course action form work? Do you go early to class or stay after and get the professor to sign it? Should I e-mail the professor first?

Email the professor just laying out that getting into 201/3 is important as you see it for a challenging double major, and what are the chances that you might actually get frozen out. There is no way first year students should get frozen out of intro, and when you email the professor, that kind of pressure makes them often open up new sections and what not.

With course actions, you used to just fill out a sheet and have the prof sign it. I am not sure if it is done electronically now. 19 people seems like a long waitlist for a 24 person section, but I am sure there is a tone of jostling. Someone else here may have more experience with that.

Don’t bug Kittlesen.

You’ll get into the class. It’s not a 24 person discussion; it’s a 300+ person lecture and lab. They know that a lot of people need to take the class and will accommodate you. I didn’t have to take lecture, but for 203 & 204, Joanne Lane is the one who takes care of enrollment; she reassured us that we would get into a lab time. Just make sure you’re on a waitlist.

But seriously, don’t bug Kittlesen. There are tons of people on the waitlist, and I bet all of the first years are going to e-mail him explaining how much they need to be in his class and it’s important for their academic future. Don’t clog his inbox.

As for course action forms, you fill one out, have it signed, and then take it to the appropriate department office. So, for biol203, you would take it to the biology office. Simple.

Thanks! I moved up to 4 and 8 on the waitlists to maybe I’ll get in without the course action form.
Are you allowed to sign up for a lab without being enrolled in the class? There are open labs I was trying to enroll in while I am waitlisted for the lecture, but every time I try to add the associated lab lecture it says “The class number entered is a duplicate. Try another.”

I thought the OP said that he was waitlisted for the sections, not the lecture. The lecture waitlist is not large relative to the class size, all is well.

I meant sections of the lecture. I am waitlisted for the two different lectures of BIOL 2010 they offer.

again, you’ll be fine. remember, school hasn’t even started. :)
