I was talking to some people yesterday they said if I wrote an essay to the language department telling them that I’m fluent in another language, I could be exempt from my language requirement?

Does anyone know if that’s true?

Not listed by the College as a way to fulfill the requirement – see: [Foreign Language Requirement FAQ | The Undergraduate College of Arts & Sciences, U.Va.](http://college.artsandsciences.virginia.edu/fl-faq) and

But couldn’t hurt to ask – I would suggest contacting someone in the department for the language in which you are fluent. Most departments have a webpage that can steer you to the correct person.

Good luck!
