Digging out the car (and not losing that parking space to someone else!) will be an experience, but driving to KOP after today will be no problem - at least once she gets on 76, which is probably already clear. Philly side streets - who knows when that will happen! KOP will be fine too. The suburbs do a great job of clearing the roads asap. My side street is already snow free.
It finally stopped snowing. Our street looks pretty good. Our driveway…not so much so. But I don’t hear snowblowers from any of my neighbors yet!
I just flew back from Hawaii to the Bay Area, but my daughter and her family are still stuck there. Their flight to NYC was canceled, and the only option available now is a red-eye through LAX. It’s not the worst place to be stranded, but a software company has booked three resorts for employees and their families from around the world, so the only room left was a four-bedroom bungalow. Somehow my son-in-law convinced them to close off two of the bedrooms and rent it to him as a two-bedroom unit.
They were supposed to leave Saturday night, but now it looks like they won’t fly out until Tuesday night. I suggested they consider flying to LAX and waiting there instead, since there are more flight options and hotels are much, much cheaper.
My awesome wife tackled the first 20ish inches at 10a.m., but the snow keeps coming. It isn’t supposed to stop until at least 8pm.
A nearby town called in the National Guard to drive EMTs and Paramedics to 911 medical calls in Humvees.
Fortunately we only got a few inches here on the western side of the Chesapeake Bay but our beach house two hours away got 22”! I have been keeping up on the neighborhood FB page there to see that many are without power, there are trees down all over with several cars destroyed, etc. I have no idea if our house has power, but my son is moving there at the end of this week to start a new job so he will have some shoveling to do when he gets there!
Our next door neighbors down there live there full time so I’m assuming our house is ok for now or we would have heard from them. There are many elderly retirees who live their FT so hopefully power is restored soon. However, the heavy, wet snow is clinging to the trees and with the wind gusts, lots of trees/branches continue falling.
Thankful the storm mostly missed us here but thinking of all of you up in the Northeast who got/are getting the brunt of it!
Here in eastern MA it’s really slowing down, said to end by 8 PM. Will go out then to stat snowblowing the 2+ feet out there!
Nice to be retired, don’t have to be anywhere tomorrow.
My Rhode Island friends beat the snow totals there from the ‘78 storm! Over 32 inches!
FDIL2’s family in MA got over 30” as well! They’ve been sending us pictures of it all day. One of their dogs LOVES it, but is pouting because she has t been allowed to be out there too long. The other HATES it and has been snuggled under blankets all day!
Our schools wouldn’t open until April! They were out for 2 weeks for our 4” of ice/snow then 8” the following week! Some were technically virtual days though
We got over two feet, but it’s tough to get a total with the drifts. We didn’t need to rake much off the roof because the high winds blew most of it away.
Ours was wet heavier snow…good snowman snow. It stuck to the roof just fine.
LOL, ours was also heavy, but the hours of 60mph+ winds worked wonders. I’m very grateful we didn’t lose power.
It’s actually more windy here now than when it was snowing. 20-30 mph winds, with gusts. I hope we don’t lose power!
It sounds like the NE got the storm(s) that were in the sierras and ran us out of Tahoe. Stay safe and warm, everyone.
Eastern MA, we have 2+ feet easily, tough to get a better number, as many have said, due to the drifting.
I snowblew for 90 minutes after dinner and feel like I did very little. Got a path from the garage at the side of the house to the front walkway.
Can’t wait to tackle the Great Wall of China the plows left us at the mouth of the driveway!
We got close to 20 inches. The good news was that it was not the wet, heavy snow predicted but was pretty dry and fluffy. My neighbors helped and it was easier to clear than the January snow. So thankful that the power stayed on! Nice to see the sun today! Forecast after today is close to/into the 40s so hopefully a lot of melting.
Our sweet black lab has no clue where to do her business with all the new snow. There hasn’t been time to shovel a new path into the backyard. She just sat in the driveway looking at where the path used to be. It took forever, walking up and own the street, looking for an acceptable spot.
Fake grass mats are your friend! ![]()
My dog refused to use them! Tried so many times. I was constantly digging out a spot for him.
AHA—-found out my issue was a broken shear pin on one of the augers—WOW, what a difference! Cleaned out more snow in 20 minutes than I did in 90 min last night!
Tip: check your shear pins!!!
And woohoo…we got three fresh inches of snow this morning. DH started to shovel our large driveway, but then got the snowblower out and did it all much more quickly. Roads were very slick under that snow…and schools were cancelled…again.
