Going from ~2100 to ~2300

This, to me, seems like the hardest jump, although it is only 200 points. It’s something that I’ve been trying to achieve, but it is super frustrating because my scores aren’t really getting much higher.

If anyone has done this successfully accomplished this, post your stories and strategies, tips, etc.

If anyone is attempting this, especially for October, I think we should form an informal study group on this thread using the tips and tricks that are given to us.

I think it would also be helpful if everyone posted their breakdowns in their posts so we could see where people are coming from with advice and whatnot.

Currently, I’m 690 M, 720 W, 740 CR. Trying to get 800s in CR and possibly writing and hoping to boost math to like 730. So far, not really any success.

seriously guys? This doesn’t apply to anyone on here?
I’ll keep this thread updated with what I’m doing at least:
73 days until test.

25 days of math at 2hrs/day - mostly geometry, but I need work in all areas
25 days of writing at 2 hrs/day - mostly essay work, but also some MC
23 days of CR at 1 hr/day ( school would have started by this time) - mostly vocab and tricky RC questions

I went from 740CR/690M/730W (2160) to 800CR/720M/760W (2280) by just going through the Blue Book, taking all the tests, marking what I got wrong or guessed on, and then going back and making sure I learned how to do every one of those kinds of questions. That’s really all I recommend.

I want to try reaching 2300 too. I got a 2100 on the June test with 640CR/760M/700W.

I kind of really took a summer vacation, but once I don’t have family over, I will start studying a lot.

I think last time taking practice tests really helped me, so I will continue that. I plan on getting a SAT writing workbook as well. I need help raising my CR score though.

Dolorous, do you recommend practicing with one subject at a time or doing entire tests?

I’m trying to do the same…

June SAT: 780 M, 650 CR, 700 W so 1430/2130

I’m only focusing on CR. I’m trying to get it to around 750 ish. What I’m doing is I have the PR 11 tests, the Blue Book, and 10 real SATs, which is about 30 tests, so I do 2 CR sections a day (untimed for now, will start timing later) and just go over my mistakes.

How did you get a 740 CR? Did it come naturally or did you practice?

I’m pretty good at reading comprehension naturally, but it took a little bit of practice. Without knowing anything about the test, I would put myself at a 700/710.

I did some practice - only untimed and figured out why I got wrong what I got wrong, but my motivation to practice only lasted a couple of days. With the amount of practice you’re doing, I think you should be at 750 soon. The only thing that I would advise is doing a FULL TEST a day -untimed if you want, but that way you can chart your progress.

How did you get a 780 M? Just sheer ability? It seems like that’s generally the case with you math-heads.

If you guys give me some math tips, I’d be glad to give you all the CR pointers I know.

Now writing is another story… I’ll be practicing from the numerous essay guides on this site. I need to work on timing, mainly.

I got a 670 the first time in January on SAT math, then when I practiced, it shot up. I used Dr. Chung’s SAT math. That book has much harder math problems so if you can do those, you can do the actual SAT math problems. But practicing for math is similar to practicing for reading, just know why you got something wrong and attack your weaknesses. My weakness was geometry and I really zeroed in on it, and if it weren’t for a bubbling error, I would’ve gotten an 800 so it’s definitely doable.

OK thanks for the advice  That sounds like a plan. I think I’m going to ask my parents if I can order that book. I’ve heard so many good things about it.

I have the same problem too!!
I got 800M 670CR and 700W. I really want to boost my CR to at least a 750-730 and writing to 750. If I can recommend a book it would definitely be Barrons 2400. As for math, I think the reason why I did so well is because I am good at math—I kept on seeing myself getting 800s on practice tests and that made doing math kind of fun hahah. If you have a specific problem I can definitely help. But I need help with CR, I am good at all the vocabulary questions, but when I do passages I can never get them all right! Are there any tricks you use?

I’m in the same position as well!
I have 690CR 700M and 710W.

But I’m aiming just a litttle bit lower lol, I just want over 2150… but I’m going to be retaking my math sat ii in october. So I’m retaking the sat in november, so I have a little more time.

During critical reading, FOCUS is the most important thing. Once I start loosing my focus, I start getting problems wrong. If you pay attention during the passage - not just regular “paying attention” – read the passage like it’s the most important and interesting document on earth— the answers should come easily. In fact, you’ll soon be able to guess what questions the SAT people will ask.

I haven’t done SAT CR in a while, but I recently took the AP, which has arguably harder problems and was able to get near perfect MC scores (-1/2) by using this strategy.

Totally possible. I got a 2060(700M/650CR/710W) in March and raised it to a 2360(760M/800CR/800W) in June. pm me if you need any help

I got 710/680/730 on the March test, and I’m aiming for 2200-2300 for the October test…

All I’ve been doing is about 1 hour of practice testing most days and then reviewing my wrong answers/ guesses. Lately my scores have been climbing.

hard work man… I started getting consistent 1800s on practice tests… ended up taking the SAT twice 2200 on the first 2300 on the second

Mannnn I’m in the same group but not quite reaching 2100 yet and I’m aiming for 2300 on october sat…640 R/700 W/720 M. The biggest problem for me is reading - my score just wont budge! Writing and math I think I can improve with practice, timing and memorizing all of those grammar rules- and that’s going to take a lot of effort too but it’s possible. But reading…I just don’t know what to do to up my score, he will be GREATLY appreciated.

I am sorta in the same boat as you guys
May Scores: 780CR, 620M, 650W (2050)
I am trying to increase my Math scores to the 650-700 range and my Writing scores to the 750-800 range.
I love my CR score :)

I’m having the same problem. 670 CR 800 M 670 W right now and looking for at least 720 800 720. Though I think I’m to lazy and pretty much have thrown in the towel by now.

Does anyone have any helpful info about Critical Reading? I have tried really hard and I just cannot break that 670 bar. I at least want to get a 700 :l
I know a lot of vocab, I get a couple wrong here and there and by the end of the CR I have gotten a lot wrong!
Any help is appreciated :)

Is everyone here taking it in October?
