hey…i’m going to my first indie show soon…and I was just wondering if most of them turn into mosh pits

depends on the band, the venue etc.
if you’re not into mosh pits, i wouldn’t worry so much: most people generally stand around with their arms folded. some head-nodding, some dancing.

who are you seeing?

haha, the first time i went into a mosh pit i got elbowed right in the back of my head. now i usually just stand up front by the stage and nod my head violently. :)

it was really weird, i went to the killers a few weeks ago and even THEY had a mosh pit… a pretty deadly one at that. I heard Motion City Soundtrack had one and several other… ‘softer’ bands.
Unless you are going to Jack Johnson or James Morrison you are bound to come upon a few people there who want to form a mosh pit. This is how it normally looks like:

ooooooooooo
everyone else o mosh pit o everyone else
ooooooooooo

cheers

wow it looked alot better when i was making it. well i guess i have to put it in words … haha
the mosh pit usually forms up in the middle of the front. Not all the way up the front, but like 3 people behind the front.

ok i am going to try and do that again…

it looks more like that,

but it still looks pretty cool, and accurate
cheers
btw which band are you going to see ?
btw2 sorry for messing up your thread

^^haha that was pretty impressive.

if you’re next to a mosh pit and get hit by someone, just tell them to f*** off and move up more or to the side.

or join in, if that’s your forte. :)

I would never get into a mosh pit if I was a girl. Unless you are big or don’t mind getting an elbow to the face stay away. People often get seriously hurt in them.

I was so excited to see Comeback Kid and have some intense moshing, but the weather sucks balls and I can’t go.

and who cares if you get hurt? You hit back.

yeah but they hit back
btw thanks for the compliment

So pardon my extreme ignorance, but what the heck is a mosh pit?

A mosh pit is a place where moshing occurs. Moshing is pushing, bumping and slamming into each other along to the beat of the music.

I went to a show this week and it turned into a mosh pit, first time that’s happened, and for a band(Valencia), that i’ve already seen once. If it’s becoming a problem, just go to a different area.

I don’t understand why people mosh to bands like Valencia, The Killers, or Motion City Soundtrack. Personal opinions aside, they’re just not moshing music

^Agreed, agreed…

I looove mosh pits. Lovelovelove. And I’m a super short, weak female. You have to get a feel for the crowd first. If it’s a relatively small group of people, a lot of times everyone is more or less paying attention and doesn’t want to hurt anybody.

In any case, if you’re going to a concert, whether you’re moshing or not…feel free to be crazy and act out the music and/or sing and/or whatever. I always love it when there’s some off the wall kid that gets everybody else going. Nothing is more boring to me than when everyone is just hanging out and nodding to a mellow indie band…although there will be that contingent at every concert if you’re not into acting ■■■■■■■■ like I am…haha.

Valencia is much different in concert than in the studio, it’s completely understandable why the crowd got as crazy as it did.

hellogoodbye-my friends said that there really isn’t a moshpit there, but i’m just a little hesitant

I remember my first time in a mosh pit. It was at lollapalooza. I got pushed into it accidentally, and a huge guy pushed me and told me that girls shouldn’t be in there. My boyfriend (then friend) and other friend got into a fight with the guy, and we all slowly (and painfully) made our way out of it.

Plus, I had a huge physics test and a conference at caltech I needed to attend, and all I could think about was the bruises all over me. (I ended up getting a high C on the test, but, thankfully, my percentage was high enough that it didn’t matter and I ended up with an A, anyways.) Probably wasn’t the best decision to go to a concert (well, one of three days) before a test.

comeback kid would be intense. i was supposed to see them with bane last year at this tiiiiiny venue… would have been rough.

i don’t go to big rough shows often, but rather to smaller, louder ones.
PS: don’t go out to a show the night before SAT II french listening! my head was POUNDING!
