My intended major is Computer Science. What are some good community colleges for transferring to UC Berkeley or even other private universities like Caltech, Stanford, in terms of courses, letters etc.
And how would you guys view CCSF, Foothill-Deanza, Diablo Valley College?

I just finished a year at De Anza as a dual enrollment student,and I’ve taken a couple of math, CS, and physics classes (the same you would take as a CS major). The transfer rates to UC’s are quite good, but do keep in mind that transferring into stanford and Cal tech are not impossible but the thing right next to it. Most people that successfully transfer into Caltech or Stanford come from other top tier schools… not community colleges. I’ve made friends that went to berkeley for medicine, ucla for engineering, and De Anza is known to have some of the best teachers. You should note that the classes here are quite rigorous, and you better work you a** off if you are set on going to berkley or stanford because although they aren’t impossible goals, they sure are hard. The few friends i have that successfully transferred have serious work ethics and would have been able to go to Berkeley or UCLA even if they went to a worse community college. De Anza did not give them any sort of advantage… it simply made them work harder partly due to the rigorous curriculum. I really enjoyed the CS and physics sequence here. Physics is notoriously hard at De Anza and those that are unwilling to put in the work to pass the class drop it and take the class at foothill. Computer science classes are also quite hard but much more easy to pass with minimal effort (but you should be aiming to get A’s … not pass if have aims to go to Berkeley). I’ve noticed that the majority of calculus classes I’ve taken at de anza were nothing more than average. There are only 2 or exceptional professors (who you can easily find out on ratemyprofessor), but our math department is certainly nothing to brag about.
