Good engineering match schools

for UW 3.5 out of 4, 1300/1600 high school student in East, Midwest?

What state? State schools can have pretty good engineering programs

NH

Which engineering discipline?

No strong preference yet, a slight incline to ME and dislike of Biomed

Case Western maybe? I’m not sure where their averages fall, might be a bit of a high match. https://www.case.edu/ir/cds/

isn’t Case Western a reach?

What’s the budget? It matters.

We’d like to keep it under 40k, but can stretch it when left with no choice.

Run the Supermatch tool on the left side of this page.

the Supermatch gives me the University of Wisconsin-Madison as a top 100% match

Now run the Net Price Calculator on the school’s web site to see if you can afford it.

the point was UWM is a reach, not a 100% match. the Supermatch is doing a very poor job.
and yes, Wisconsin is very expensive for us, nearly 50k.

Is that a 1300 from the New SAT or old?

Re: 3.5 GPA…what were you getting B’s in?

UNH.

Solid engineering program.
Roughly $25,000-$28,000, in-state.

This should be the benchmark for you. It’s a great option. Measure all other “matches” against it.

@mom2collegekids 1300 new, B’s across the board. Band straight A, Social Studies C+

@STEM2017 Net price calculator says $31k. UNH Engineering #124 as per USNEWS - doesn’t look very appealing. and finally S really doesn’t want to go in-state.
However we do consider it as a safety.

RIT? SUNY-Buffalo?

I’m a fan of ASEE. Under each school, look for > Undergraduates > New Applicants to see the stats of enrolled engineering students. The site also breaks down different specialties/types of students, lists areas of expertise, and other fun stuff.

Example: 2015 incoming engineering class had SAT range of 1250 - 1400 and 94% were in ranked in the top 25% of their high school.

For a quick “is it in our price range” if you won’t want to fill out the COA for every possibility, I like College Scorecard.
