Got a weird call from Brown University

Just recently, I received a call from Brown University stating that this man wanted to speak to Dr. _____ who is in my family. However, he have never attended (or have any affiliation) with ANY university or college in any country. This family member also received The Brown alumni magazine.

So what is going on? Is this a scam or not? Have any of you guys’ family members ever received something like this?

They want you… ;).

How did this man become a Dr. without attending any university.

dfree, if only that’s true. IF ONLY.

But yeah, agreed. I have not clue how they got my home’s phone, address, and my family member’s name

Any other responses?

It sounds sketchy, similar to the National Scholars of High School Students or whatever scam thing. I’d just ignore it.

Granted, we’re paranoid at my house and if we don’t recognize a number, we don’t answer, lol.

I can’t NOT be paranoid! This school got all this information without our consent. Now, NSHSS got my information also, but in this case, my family member (or any member of my family) have no relations with Brown in the first place! Collegeboard gave my information to NSHSS, but this brown incident??

You haven’t answered this one.

^ I’m curious about this too

Maybe they got mixed up or something. Especially if you are Asians. There are many Asians with the same names.

Four words: Honorary degree.

Consider yourself schooled.

They’re on a big fundraising push right now (and have been since our last president announced she was stepping down). Maybe they wanted some cash if he has any alum status?

Okay let me answer the above question:
How did this man become a Dr. without attending any university.

HE DIDN’T. And he doesn’t have a Ph.D in anything.

I’m still wondering how the doctor thing works…=P

So um… Why do you call him doctor then?

Don’t you mean “two words: honorary degree?”

Guys, let me just get this straight.

HE’S NOT A DOCTOR. And that’s why I posted this question, why is a man, NOT A DOCTOR, being called a doctor by an Ivy League school he never attended.

I know it sounds insane. I don’t get it myself

Then why’d you call him a doctor in the first post? What’s he a doctor in?

Tedders. The person on the phone called him a doctor.

Loving this thread…<3

Did you try googling the name. Maybe there is another person ( who has a doctorate) with the same name???
