I don’t technically have to leave the house until Wednesday… but I really hope that’s not true :/

I live off a secondary road (not a subdivision street… a mile road that isn’t considered a “main” road) and our streets have STILL not been cleared since the last snow.

Yeah Minnesota is basically like living in a freezer for a few months. Just have to wear a couple of layers when going out and you will be fine. But a lot of people have to work tomorrow, even though the schools are cancelled. I say everyone just stay at home by the fireplace, and enjoy the last day of winter break!

I live on a short dead end street, maybe 20 houses. Our street doesn’t get cleared, we just drive over it until its packed down. I’m not getting through it in a focus or a genesis, it’s just not going to happen. After the New Years storm I had the hardest time getting to work, my tires spun the whole way and I went off the road at one point, I had no control over my car and that was well less than half the snow we have now. I’m just not doing it.

I hope my boss does not offer to pick me up. She has an SUV but doesn’t have AWD or 4WD. She MIGHT be able to get down my street but it is still not safe. I do not wish to risk life and limb and it should be my choice. I can work from home and if they won’t let me I will use a sick day. I am just having nothing to do with this.

I’ve never been in this cold before so it’s never been a problem and I don’t really know what to do.

It’s -8f right now and the forecast for when I leave in the morning is -20f. My tank is full. I was able to start my car but it took a few tries and I have left it running. I’m worried it may not start tomorrow when I need it because of the cold. Is there anything I can do right now to help make sure it starts?

Just went and dug out my car… and I couldn’t get out of the driveway.

Two of my roommates shoveled the best they could and one used his jeep to make tracks so that my car could get out. My driveway is a road onto itself so it wasn’t a small task (they’re out shoveling still… I quit when it got too hard to breath).

My other roommate is coming home as we speak from her job so I’m interested to see how the roads are.

63°F here today! Love Wilmington. It is supposed to get down to 20°F Tuesday night. It is impossible for me to imagine that kind of cold. Kids are going on a ski trip later this month and we’ve been working for months to collect enough heavy clothing for the trip. I still need to find long underwear for the girls.

I’ve been pampered by Californian weather for my whole life, so, I find it hard to understand how some of you survive, haha. Our weather has been unseasonably warm lately with 66 degrees as the high today - normal is 40-50 degrees - but compared to you guys, it like a freaking sauna over here.

Has anybody tried to drive in SE Michigan yet? We are just waking up and trying to assess what to do. Wxyz says temps from -30 to -40 by afternoon which I feel like is a lot colder than they said it would be!

Romani, I am especially interested in your fianc

I literally can’t drive right now. I live on a dirt road in the middle of nowhere, so I’ll be stranded until road commission comes through and someone plows us out. But I don’t care because I have nowhere to be.

Just looked outside and this is the most snow I ever remember having… And it’s quite chilly so far.

Good luck to anyone who has to drive today! Stay warm & be safe.

Ema, all I know is he made it. I asked him how the roads were and he said “OK”. Lol I’m going back to sleep. I’ll update after he gets home.

My roommate got stuck at the gas station down the street last night. We have almost identical cars but either the roads got better or we’re better at driving than her. My roommate used his jeep to essentially push her car home.

ETA: They’ve already closed several schools/districts for Tuesday and WDIV said most would likely close again tomorrow.

-17 this morning. With the windchill it was in the -30s. The wind was the killer. Schools closed, but state government and UW-Madison opened. Students are out of town until the day after MLK’s birthday.

oldfort, I do hope you will update us on your D’s flight. It sounds tricky. Good luck to everyone trying to get around.

I am glad that H’s workplace cancelled for today. The roads are full of spinouts and wrecks. The sun is shining so I am happy about that (-14 here). We had a LOT of continuous snow this past week. They say it will be in the 30’s next weekend. Wow!

Wow, i don’t know how you all do it. between looking at the people at the green bay game and the morning news about refrigerators in garages exploding. i may never again complain about the sunshine tax. Well, at least not until i complete fafsa and see our EFC again. Be safe back there.
