Governor Closes all Minnesota Schools Next Monday! How Cold Will it Be in Your State?

You are a sweet daughter, Harvestmoon.

When my S was in school, his teachers only got to have one snow day off. The next day(s) they had to report, use one of their two personal days, or take the day without pay. Hmmm.

Hope you’re all safe and warm - and that pipes are flowing and cars are starting very soon. Wishing for a warm up for all the pets, too.

The idea of it being that cold without having heat is miserable.

Our AC in Florida broke during the summer once and I thought I was going to die, like actually. My mom woke me up to take me down to the pool at 4am because my lips were turning blue in my sleep because it was so humid and so stuffy. I’d take my chances with this blizzard over that any day.

It is three degrees here. BRRRR.

There are still many older homes in Florida that don’t have heaters…the homes were built without heaters. Unfortunately, when Florida has a cold snap, many fires occur injuring people and houses because people use junky space heaters improperly or with extension cords, or heat kitchen with oven door open, or drag gas BBQ grills into house and gas themselves, or they knock over kerosene heater, etc. I’ll feel better when things warm up.

Haha, lizard. My chi just burrows under as many blankets as he can, for as long as he can. But I am proud of him for going out to go potty the past two days when it has been -15!

Yeah, cold and Chihuahuas don’t mix well. I’ve heard of ski bunnies, but I’ve never heard of ski chihuahuas

Sweater-tolerant dogs and sweaters are match made in heaven in this weather!

I was in Florida after hurricane charley. We had no electricity for 11 days and it was like 100 degrees outside following the storm. We had running water (I never understood how that works) so I spent a lot of time sitting in cold baths. I think after only a couple days the grocery store opened back up and I spent a few days just hanging out in the grocery store playing on my game boy because they had AC. I remember a few of us kids doing that.

I think my Chihuahua needs winter boots too! After I walk her down the block in this cold to do her business, she stops, sits in the road, and looks up at me looking for a lift back to the house…I think her feet get so cold walking on cold road…it brings her to a halt and she stiffens up and doesn’t want to walk anymore because of cold feet. I give in and give her a lift because I don’t want to wait in cold either waiting for her to get moving. If we were up north I guess we’d have to find some Chihuahua winter boots for her.

It’s somewhat odd the fond memories I have from when there was a power outage due to a torrential thunderstorm/hurricane. Always brings people together. :)

Vlad, I’ll take the Florida summer heat over cold winter weather any day. I was raised in Florida and can take the heat…I can do fine without any a/c at all…I don’t like cold though. I don’t like lightning, hurricanes, or tidal surges either…the 100 degree weather though doesn’t bother me.

Oh, gosh. Your dog is going to look so adorable! (And feel more comfortable.)

I’d rather take a humid 100+ degree Florida heat than a cold winter. I’ve been in a cold state. I’ve done my time. I may complain about how hot it is some days, but I’m a tropical girl.

Shoot, I’d deal with getting in a car thats been sitting in the sun all day long for an entire year than dealing with a car that’s nearing absolute zero.

Then there’s Michigan, with 90-100 degree heat waves seemingly at least once a year and megablizzards six months later. I like them both as long as my heating and cooling is working. :)

I don’t like no a/c in my car summer time…my dream car would have air-conditioning built right into my car seat bottom cushion so when I hop in the car that’s been parked in sun baking I wouldn’t get my bottom cooked like a baked ham just out of a 325 degree oven.

…lizard…I totally forgot about that…and how the steering wheel is burning hot…My mind definitely fantasized the heat.

The only thing I don’t like about starting AC in the summer is the first few seconds when it’s burning hot air before it gets cold. I generally roll down the windows and crank the AC up.

These are pretty amazing pictures of Chicago:

I have to walk to pick up my sister from school… 5 minute walk there, 5 minute walk back and I felt the cold for half an hour after I got back home. Hope everyone can stay inside tonight!

It’s warming up… You can use Musher’s Wax to protect your pet’s paws. You can order it on amazon.

romani- have you tried getting someone to give you a jump start?

I’ve been told by a neighbor who was a bus driver that the reason we have to cancel school here when it less than -5 is because the diesel fuel in the buses turns to gel. No engine block heaters and the like around here because this is a rare event- a few times a decade.

2016- my best friend was supposed to come over and give me a jump… and then none of his cars would start. Oy!

I’ve already emailed my professors and will not be going to U of M tomorrow. I’ll work on the car tomorrow. The only roommate who can get into our driveway hasn’t been home yet for me to ask him for a jump.

I’m hoping with the weather tomorrow, it’ll be better on its own. We’ll see!
