Governor Closes all Minnesota Schools Next Monday! How Cold Will it Be in Your State?

14 and Ann Arbor roads are fine but people are still crawling along. My twenty minute drive took an hour.

Since we are all hopefully coming OUT of the arctic weather now (or soon), take a look at these AMAZING photos of Chicago this week - warm weather friends, beware…these photos MAY contain frigid graphics. ;)

Felt like a veritable heat wave here in CT this morning: 24 degrees!

I read last night that the Gov. of Alabama’s private residence sustained >$50K of damage from burst water pipes in his attic. Having just completed a horrible reno where everything that could go wrong did go wrong, my heart goes out to anyone who now has to deal with home repairs.

It’s gotten to the point where people are blaming just about everything on the cold now. Fed Ex claims it can’t deliver a package since Monday due to the temps, yet USPS and UPS both delivered something today that I ordered yesterday.

My doctor’s office couldn’t return a call that I left on Monday due to the weather. Seriously?

People around here were so excited about the “heat wave” today. I saw tons of people without mittens or hat. The wind chill this morning was -8 !!

So far our school is not canceled for tomorrow. However, all the surrounding corporations are…and they aren’t nearly as rural. I’m not holding out much hope.

Rain/freezing rain is forecast for the weekend in Maine, even in the mountains! That’s a problem, because we wanted to go up to our cabin, and it might be tricky to get a snowmobile up the steep hill in those conditions. Sigh. We could have handled snow or cold, but ice is bad. We’ll have to postpone our trip.

Hit 26 this afternoon. Only needed my sweater coat.

Not happy to hear about freezing rain in Maine. Always makes me worried my son will do something stupid like drive somewhere.

Saw people out in shirtsleeves and shorts today in Wisconsin. It was -18 here this morning but warmed up to 20!

All the tomato plants in our backyard made it through the cold snap Florida experienced last few days. Planted them in September and they are still producing lots of tomatoes.

That’s good to hear. I wonder how the fruits will be…

the fruit should be ok…we only had temps dip short period below freezing for couple of hours…not a hard freeze. When I was young kid I made the mistake of eating some oranges from a tree a few days after a very hard freeze…I got very sick!

Why would frozen fruit make you sick?

If the fruit isn’t fully ripened, it essentially rots the fruit and promotes harmful bacteria and such…

I think the fruit spoiled and fermented or something after being in sun and thawing out a few days after freeze. I know I got sick.

Who would have thought that 29 degrees could feel warm!

24 degrees! It’s fantastic.

But terrible road visibility.

No school today either! This will be the 4th weekend D has been out. S1 is getting married June 14th. Every day we creep closer. Ugg.

sryrstress, where are you?? I thought we were mostly done with this weather nonsense, at least for a while.

Hopefully, worst thing that happens is she has to reschedule exams earlier so she can make the wedding. Don’t add that to the rest of your stress!

Northern Indiana–hoping for Monday  No roads got plowed until Wed. I thought we’d go with a 2 hr delay today, but I guess not. Yesterday there were still rural roads with snow issues. Today it’s fog.
