GPA calculations

I was just wondering if anyone knows whether GPAs are calculated the same way for international students as it is for American students. Thankyou : )

Do you mean in college? Or in high school?

I mean college.

My guess is that it's the same. Why should it be different?

Yeah, from my understanding no matter what GPA you had in school the colleges recalculate all your grades following their own standards because there are no strict rules about how they figure out your GPA in school and everyone seems to be doing them slightly differently.

By the way what is GPA?And how do you calculate it?

Grade Point Average. Basically it's how many points you get for a grade that you receive in a specific level class. For example for getting a B in an honors class you may get 3.0, in an AP class a B would account for 4.0. So basically the higher the grade and the higher the level of the class you take the better your GPA is.

Every school treats GPA differently so it's kind of hard to calculate it without having some sort of a chart.

But, for example in Russia are not any honor or AP at all, only usual curiculum for everybody. What then?

I dunno man. Ask someone in the admissions office of the college you want to apply to.
