Gpa & Rutgers

I am currently looking at rutgers as one of the schools i apply. I have done alot of research but still am alittle confused on what kinds of grds are needed to get into the school.

How important are gpa to rugters?
what gpa range do they look at?
Is this audition more important then grds?

To go to MGSA it is all about the audition… I would say it is like CMU probably with 80% aud. and 20% academics… Therefore, the audition outweighs the grades period.

I woudn’t necessarily count of that NYQ12- grades seem to factor in more for Drama/Acting majors than for MT or music itself. Yes the audition is important, but since schools are seeing many equally talented kids, they often go to grades and test scores to break those “mental ties”. This is especially true for Drama majors because there are pretty intense classes required where you have to analyse plays/scripts in great detail and they want to make sure that you have the necessary “tools” to suceed. Do a search on CC about this and look in the Music Forum as well as the Parent’s Cafe- there are several threads running about the importance of grades/ test scores for performance majors. Check them out- you’ll see that while some schools make slight adjustments for grades for these majors, others most assuredly do not (CMU has different expectations for MT, Drama and Music, so it depends…).

My son is a senior in the acting program at Rutgers and they really didn’t look at his GPA all that closely. They were really clear at the audition: if they want you and your GPA isn’t what the university would like it to be, they will still get you into the university. BTW, my son’s GPA was about 3.2
