Grades vs SAT scores

I know there has already been quite some arguement on this, but will a decent SAT score (2050 for SAT 1, 1500 for CR & Math) show that I am actually quite okay at my studies? Or will the admission officers look at my grades (normally B or C for exams, ACC for A-levels) and chuck my applications aside? I come from an average JC (CJC, Singapore) and was probably top 20 - 30% in my class. What will my academic profile look like to the college?

Do I stand a chance at second-tier colleges? And perhaps a shot at Cornell ED since I’m not getting financial aid? My ECs are probably quite alright. I got a gold medal at a school-level competition (competition among the JCs) and represented my school in a few international competitions for my sport.

sorry to say bro, but Cornell ED might be too long a shot with those stats, even without fin aid…

A 2050 SAT I is a very good score. It may be an advantage if you are not seeking financial aid especially since you will add diversity to your class. Apply & see what happens. Nobody can accurately assess your chances without reading your entire application including teacher recs, essays, ECs & grades–and even then it would just be an educated guess.

If you got A C C at your A-levels (unless I read wrong) I doubt Cornell would let you in. Unless of course you have some overly super extra curricular.

Unless you are recruited for the sport you play, it is quite unlikely for you to be accepted by Cornell even with ED with an ACC A-levels. But then it is random so you never know (or maybe I am just bitter over them waitlisting me, but that’s another story, haha)

Yeah, I got A C C. Kinda screwed myself by playing too much and not being serious enough with my future. Anyway, thanks for the advice. I suppose I should re-adjust my standards. Sorry for being an idiot at this. I’m still kinda new to the american education system. Most of the CJcians who study overseas end up in Australia…

So will I stand a chance at Wisconsin, Madison, for example?

Looks like you have a 50-70% chance to get in to UW Madison; but remember the chart is just a guideline. I used your class rank of top 20-30% and your average SAT score of between 690-800.
