Hello, I am currently in grade 12 (Canadian school) and a music major (playing the flute)!
I have enough course credits so that I can graduate a semester earlier, which would actually make some time for me to go to trial lessons and take auditions for the colleges at the United States. I am thinking of applying to Northwestern, Oberlin, Peabody, Eastman and Juilliard (and some Canadian Universities). I am in partial IB, and by missing courses for few weeks, it would be very hard to catch up with the materials and end up in lower marks. So my thought is to take regular mandatory courses I need to graduate.
My hesitation is that my mother thinks it would actually lower my chances to get accepted to American schools - she thinks they would hate to see a gap semester on the transcripts and think I am being lazy and just want to rest after all the application process. Would this be the actual case? Am I just lowering my case of being accepted?

Ps. If I just a gap semester, does that mean I can still attend prom and commencement on June with regular students?

Thanks in advance!
