Hi, I’m an international student. I’m in my final year of high school (which is 12th grade where I live), but I’ll be attending a boarding school next year (United World College; it’s 2 years).
Do I explain my situation to all colleges I’ll apply to? How do I explain the activities I’ve done? (e.g. MUN 14th-15th grade?!)
IF you are enrolled at ANY college after you graduate from HS, you will NOT be eligible to apply in the US as a Freshman.
After taking college classes you can ONLY apply as a transfer student, which will GREATLY reduce your chances of admittance at many colleges.
@menloparkmom United World College isn’t a college. UWC schools and colleges are located in 16 countries. It’s a high school basically.
OP, will you getting two diplomas?
@4kidsdad I guess so. I’ll be getting my current high school’s diploma and the IB Diploma (because the HS I’ll be attending next year is an IB school).
where are you hoping to apply for college?
@menloparkmom I haven’t given much thought to it but I consider myself a very ambitious student.
What difference would my list of colleges make? Can my situation cause me trouble in some colleges, but not in others?
I think @menloparkmom may have been asking where in the geographic sense?
There is really nothing to explain. You are doing an IB program, and you will apply with your IB marks. Any of the schools participating in the Shelby Davis Scholarship will get it without being told, and the rest will take it as a prep/transition year program. It’s more common internationally, but it does happen in the US as well.
Have a great adventure- make the most of it!
