He’s already 16 and will be 17 in a couple of weeks. I’m not a fan either but I think it’s going to be a while before he’s a has been. His appeal is far wider than the under 12 crowd. He was in town a few weeks ago for the premiere of his movie and judging by the crowds surrounding a hotel where he was giving interviews and where he was staying, the city’s high schools were devoid of teenage girls that day. There were hundreds and hundreds of girls who were far older than 12. I admit that it surprised me but apparently this is common wherever he goes.

I don’t get the appeal but I guess I’m not the right demographic. I blame Usher. This Bieber phenomenon is all his fault.

* I fight hard to repress generational grumpiness all of the time. Often when I’m in the middle of a rant about the young, that famous 1950s black & white TV image of the southern politician ranting about the moral decay and communist ploting of Elvis and his gyrating hips comes to mind. Lord I hope I never sound THAT grumpy!!!*

Instead of watching the awards H & I went to go see Another Year…( snipped for ranting about being married too long)
Anyway-Peter Wight’s character goes off on a perfect rant about
young people… young people… everythings for young people*
It was great but I was seriously worried he was going to have a heart attack.

I think Bieber is adorable and there are far worse influences out there. He can carry a tune and there are bigger stars who can’t even be auto-tuned. His dancing is okay but he surrounds himself with really good dancers. I’ve seen him on several talk shows and he’s very accessible and has a cute sense of humor. I think he appeals to the younger crowd in the same way Taylor Swift does. He seems wholesome and approachable. There is an adorable video from the Jimmy Kimmel show that shows how cute he can be. Go to You Tube and search “Jimmy Surprises Bieber Fan.” It helps that he has a baby sister so he’s comfortable around little kids.

I didn’t get to watch the Grammy’s … too much stuff happening here. But … I did get to check out the pre-telecast awards to see that the album produced by [someone from my past] won a Grammy! I’ve been following his career from the sidelines … and it’s really exciting to know that he’s doing so well. He’s had albums nominated in the past and not won, but now he’s a Grammy-winning producer, not just Grammy-nominated!
