Blue looked embarrassed.
I’m surprised she had never performed at the Grammys before.
Just mentioned Jason Isbell. I would have loved to see him there
I just looked up Jacob Collier, who played piano for Joni Mitchell. I’m so glad that I did … he’s talented and very uplifting.
My daughter turned me on to boygenius. Had no clue who they were then started listening to their solo albums also… Now I get it. Lol.
Come on Taylor… No hug for Celine Dion…??
They won 3 Grammy as a group and Phobe Bridger won one with Sza
I’d have liked to see them on the stage. You just don’t see much alt there, ever. Also would like to see Jason Isbell. He’s got crossover appeal because of his Twitter renown and now his acting. It would make sense to have him appear, not just have a win announced.
Don’t get me wrong, I loved the show. But alternative and Americana are my favorite genres so I’d like to see them up there.
They’re gay - they have a lot of sex appeal to gay women. My daughters have been fans for years and have seen them in concert together and solo (they each have a solo career as well).
As I said, I’m a big fan. I certainly wasn’t questioning their sex appeal or who are their fans. I love them as well as their solo work. Just pointing out that alternative acts do not get much attention from grammies, them as well as others.
(I think “queer” is more accurate if we’re discussing their orientation, actually.)
Only got about half way through the show and am looking forward to watching the rest tonight. Love that there is lots of chatter about the Grammy’s here and in other feeds…even if people can be pretty picky and nit-pick about how artists look or perform.
It seems to be a year that music of new and music of old was really celebrated.
I was too…but my husband made a good point. The Grammys seem to be more about pop and rock music than anything else (at least the televised parts). Joni was not pop or rock.
I was glad to see and hear her also. She contributed so much to the changing face of music everyone listened to.
Sorry to disappoint (
) no new Grammy garments this year - all energy is going into the Usher back up dancers for the Super Bowl!
Back in the day, the Grammys were more about the awards and less about performances.
I definitely loved that the emphasis was on the music–that’s what it’s about! I almost never watch awards shows anymore, but i am so glad I decided to tune in for this one. So many epic performances!
And the clothes ![]()
So my daughter is. She would go out with friends and tell me their going to see this or that gay band. I would say. “So that’s a music genre”? Lol. I learn something new everyday. To me it’s all about the music.
I love them too and think they are so talented. My daughters use “gay” rather than queer. Both are gay. I agree “queer” is more widely used by activists and in the media and I suppose by folks in the community itself, my kids are pretty aware but seem to prefer the word gay. I also agree with your point about indie bands being ignored by mainstream usually, but I suppose that’s what makes them “indie” ![]()
Yes, certainly a genre, often crossover with Indie. My Spotify unwrapped included lots of these bands but the funniest part was that my daughter uses my phone to play music in the car on Apple CarPlay, so much of it was her music, I was along for the ride to speak, but through this time with her, I’ve actually become quite enamored with some of her favorite bands.
I must be the only non Joni Mitchell fan here. Her voice is like nails on a chalkboard to me. I turn the channel every time she comes on. She’s probably a fine person, and I don’t disrespect her musicianship, I just can’t stand listening to her. ![]()
I love that Taylor Swift won, even if she did engage in shameless self promotion. She’d be criticized no matter what she did. Let the haters rage. ![]()
Also loved the Fast Car performance so much. Luke Comb’s rendition is really good, although I wish Tracy Chapman had gotten more recognition when it first came out. So cool to see her sing it with him. Props to him for having her perform as well.
And Joni! So wonderful although somewhat bittersweet given her health challenges. And yes sang along and teared up at the end. Wondered how many of those young musicians had any idea of who she was.
Also good to see Stevie Wonder sing and Celine Dion onstage looking pretty good (Apparently Taylor gave her a big hug backstage). The Tina Turner tribute was great as well,
