Hello All,

My name is Leila and I am from Morocco.

I am currently an ESL student in New York. New York is a great option for ESL studies, especially in the spring and summer. There are film festivals, street festivals, free concerts, parks, beaches, shopping, an exciting night life and so much more. It is very diverse and I have met people from all over the world.

I am studying at Berlitz in Rockefeller Center. The teachers and staff are fantastic and always accommodating. I’m learning so much here! The classes are small (only 6 students max!) and conversational based. No time is spent on boring grammar explanations. Now I will be ready to start studying at New York University in the fall, which I’m totally excited about. I am here on an F-1 visa, which was not a complicated process at all.

I highly recommend Berlitz to anyone interested in learning a language. Check out their website:

Best,

I hope this is not an advertisement.

Assuming that you didn’t take the toefl, how could it be possible to start in the fall?how did you prove your proficiency in English without taking the toefl?

or you took it?

I actually did take the TOEFL exam, there are other ways to prove your proficiency but that was the best for me. You can also submit scores from the IELTS, English language testing System or you can go to the American Language Institute (nyu) and they will do a proficiency test. This is if you are already in New York.

I did an English private program at Berlitz to help me prepare for the TOEFL and it really helped me to do well. They had teachers that specialized in preparing students for this test and it was one-on-one, so I could focus on my needs and goals. I had very little English before so I really had a lot of work to do.

It’s now too late for admission for fall 09, but you can start thinking about your application for spring or fall 2010. In addition to the application and English proficiency, you will also need to give a certification of finances.

Good Luck!
