Greek life?

I know that 30% of the student body is in a fraternity/sorority, but is there a ton of pressure to join one? How easy is it to join one? Is there social life outside of Greek life?

There really isn’t pressure to join one, and yes there’s plenty of social organizations that are not Greek. For example, I’m part of the very gregarious and organizationally-strong OYFA (despite not being Filipino), and there are tons of clubs who organize their own parties (yes, with alcohol) and events.

I’ve never rushed.

Even considerably nerdy organizations like the American Parliamentary Debate Association visit other schools’ debating tournaments and party with other students (with alcohol). In my time in APDA, I remember one episode (perhaps typical) in which two people from different schools met each other at the parly party (which occurs at the end of the first day between the second and third rounds), slept with each other, and then found out they were debating opponents for the third round when they arrived at HQ in the morning.

so yes, plenty of social shenanigans happen outside of Greek life.
