What, someone shows up at your door, your husband is dying and you’re going to WAIT for someone to show up at your house to babysit? Of course not.
Bear in mind that Meredith had been worrying all day, since she got the phone call. I thought her reaction was completely realistic. This was her worst fear coming true. She was almost mentally frozen. (Remember Christina walking around after the plane crash, repeating over and over “I’ve lost my shoe. I’ve lost my shoe.” )
Meredith lives up on a mountain. There isn’t someone next door to run over and watch the kids. It’s a drive. The fastest way to get to her husband was to take the kids. Plus she asked the police what she should do and that’s probably what they told her to do (off screen).
I just watched the episode. I already knew hat happened, so maybe that affected things. I thought it was extremely powerful and well done.
"Meredith lives up on a mountain. There isn’t someone next door to run over and watch the kids. It’s a drive. "
Since she was monitoring the situation, don’t you think she would have planned for this. She has a SIL, many friends and a half sister she is getting to know.
No, I don’t think she would have planned for the police showing up at her door with the news that her H was at death’s door in a hospital.
How do you plan for that?
It would, in fact, be more reasonable for her to figure that he cought his plane and something happened in DC.
Perhaps Dempsey will honor the second year of his contract by coming back as a “ghost” a la Patrick Swayze.
They already did that with Denny.
True–twice would be pushing it…
The exact phrase she said if I remember correctly, How can I go? I have kids… I was thinking how can you not go kids or not. Besides, this is a TV show. They often disregard practical considerations if incovenient. Here they made it an issue.
I think the "how can I go"statement was Meredith grasping at something to push the reality away.
My Dd finally watched last night, after she finished her tears, we discussed the realities of the happenings. He was driving to the airport, that must be the Seattle airport if he is flying to DC, so just where the heck do they live that a serious injury was not lifeflighted to Harborview, the level 1 trauma center for a 5 state region? DD works in the ED, she agreed that most of the medical stuff was just bogus unless he was in some really rural place, the kind that would not have a CT scan available on site. If. he was on one of the islands, he would still be taken to Harborview, heck DD has been on the helicopter to the boonies and there is even a small plane for emergency cases from Alaska to be brought in.
Take that, Shonda!
And, yes, stopping across both lanes of a road where you just rescued people from a nasty crash, just to find your phone that had dropped, nope, not realistic!
My SIL who is a doc had all kinds of issues with the show!
I finally just watched it. So stupid and disappointing how it was acted. For heaven’s sake. And totally unrealistic. I’m so tired of Meredith being a stoic, cold b-word. When you get news like that, after your knees buckle and you panic a bit, you call someone and say “I need you”. And have someone or several meet you there. Stupid. Especially the sister of your husband who is his only relative in the area regardless of her occupation.
I’m thinking that may have been intentionally done by the writers so that part of the new drama will be Amelia’s reaction to not having been called/consulted by Meredith before deciding to pull the plug
The whole show bothered me! From the foreshadowing, which to me took away some of the emotion pull, to the fact that she didn’t call in Amelia. It was all so wrong. Then you add in all of the medical “stuff” and it just was not a good episode for me.
Not to mention the fact that I will miss Patrick Dempsey, but he hasn’t been in much this year, so it wasn’t a surprise there either. Now that Christina is gone, and Derek, there are very few characters left on the show that I really truly like. I am not a fan of Meredith, so now I hope they concentrate on Karev, because he is one of the only ones left that I really like
I know what you mean @nowmomto3 The only ones I really care to see are Karev and (why can’t I remember her name!!! ugh) the one that is the bone doctor…she is an original. I’ve always like her…and I like how she interacted with Derek. I think the show is now just a shell of what it was. Meredith has grown in the wrong direction, so bitchy and closed off, and I didn’t used to think of her that way. I’m wondering if they are going to end it with her being Chief somehow. I just don’t enjoy the show the way I used to. Christina leaving was the catalyst to the end I think.
I still like it. It’s a soap opera, I don’t require much from a soap opera. I like Callie, Bailey, Arizona, Karev. April and whathisname. I like some of the characters whose names I don’t know. It still holds my interest, though I admit I usually DVR 3 or 4 episodes before I’m moved to catch up.
I’m not sure why I am still watching. The medical part of it is beyond ridiculous. I gave up on Scandal long ago…I do actually like How to Get Away with Murder, although the lawyering in that is laughable too, the plot is a humdinger.
People really think Meredith is nasty and cold? Wow.
