"Guaranteed Transfer Option"

dewdrop–I’m sorry I mistook your situation as a waiting GT like my S. Now I remember that you came into Cornell as a GT, but you are already there! Sorry about the mix-up! Hope you’re having a great semester up in Ithaca.

I don’t know about you, but I think it would be nice to see the sun more often about now…

geez–too many posts from me today–sorry about that, too, everyone!

My deposit for housing is actually a non-refundable $100. I agree it’s awkward. My friends wanted me to live with them next year, but I had to say no to them just because I didn’t want to mess up their housing contract.

Dr. Mom…no problem!

I agree…some sun would be nice. But that’s why I’m moving to New Orleans after graduation!!

WTC–I think it’s worth the $100. for the piece of mind, frankly. That’s what I thought about my S’s deposit also. If he loses it, he loses it, I said, but at least he has something solid for next year. It just turned out that his is refundable, but we would have paid it, either way. He’ll have to talk about the housing arrangements with his roommates soon. He doesn’t want to mess them up. It turns out, one of them has a friend who is thinking about transferring to that school in the fall, so it might work out that my S could hold a housing spot for him for the group while this other guy decides, and they can help each other out that way. His roommates are all good friends who’ve known his GT situation all along, so something will work out.

dewdrop–That’s so great that you’re going to New Orleans! From what we see on the news, the city sounds like it would love having new college graduates come to the area! They’ll be lucky to have you!

Ha–just noticed the misspelling of “piece” of mind for “peace” of mind! Strange glitch, that! Too bad I can no longer edit the post. Oh, well…

Dr_Mom, you’re too much  hahaha

I have a gauranteed transfer to ilr next year and i just submitted my grades so far and i have a 3.4 with no Cs. I was wondering if anyone knows if my grades matter anymore now for the reaminder of the year. Thanks.

They will definitely matter as far as credit transferring. You have to submit your final transcript and if you have anything lower than a C- the credit won’t transfer. As far as admission being rescinded…I’m not too sure how it works for GTs

So… have any fellow GTs received any emails regarding a PIN or whatnot to eventually check the status/decisions? I mailed the GT supplemental forms and midterm grades a while ago, and just haven’t heard back from Cornell in a while.

Hi, diehldun–My S hasn’t received anything yet either–not by email or by snail mail. It would be nice just to get some sort of confirmation that they received everything they needed, wouldn’t it? He says he’s not expecting anything, really, until he gets his decision letter.

riseabove–My S was told that GTs need to keep their GT-required grades right through the final grades for this semester. It’s tough to have this kind of pressure, especially as a freshman. He is not in ILR, though, so it might be different for you. Hang in there–you’re almost there!

grandtortue–You should be hearing something soon, yes? Aren’t the Ivy decisions coming out this coming Monday, 3/31? Wow–that’s a tough wait, but it is coming right up. I remember how nervous my S was to hear. I’ll have to remember to check in on this board next week. GOOD LUCK!!! I’m keeping my fingers crossed for you!

it seems like everyone’s eager to hear back from cornell! i called the GT office today and they said they’re gonna email the link to check our app status online on april ninth…
i really hope i get in despite my awful fall semester grades. my midterm grades are so much better so hopefully they’ll be counted…

So it looks like April 9th will be the first “big event”… spark07, is this date for your particular school, or do you think it covers all GTs?

I can’t stand all the suspense of waiting!

i’m not sure… i’m applying to human ecology, u should check with ur school…ahhhhh i just want them to tell me “ur in, congrats!”

hahaha

I was just rereading much of this thread today, and it really does trace the last year, almost to the day, for many of the Cornell GTs. Thanks to diehldun for starting the thread way back then! (I’d forgotten it was you who started it!). Ha. Good luck to the 2012 applicants who will be hearing back about their RDs in just about…hmm…5 minutes! I wonder how many of them will also find themselves with those confusing (at first) GT offers.

If so, join the club! There are several students and parents who post here to help one another with support and anecdotal information and advice.

grantortue–don’t forget to “report” in! Ha. :)

"Within the next few days you will receive a letter from the undergraduate college to which you applied. In this letter, you will learn that the college is offering you a transfer option. Please read the letter carefully and contact the college directly if you have any questions. "

Does this mean GT?

Matty–It very well could!

mine says that too

Dr. Mom! I think I got a GT!!! :)

"Within the next few days you will receive a letter from the undergraduate college to which you applied. In this letter, you will learn that the college is offering you a transfer option. Please read the letter carefully and contact the college directly if you have any questions. "

is that it?

grantortue–I think so! I think so! I’m going to check through our family files and see if I can locate that original letter my S received last year, but that sure sounds like it!!!

Well, I’m not finding the print-out he must have made of the online notification a year ago right now, but I’m pretty sure that’s it, grantortue! Your paper letter envelope will be a little thicker than a rejection/waitlist letter! I do have his original paper letter that came in the mail with the packet.

CONGRATS!!!

grantorture–i got the same thing
if you look at the first post of this thread it is very similar, but it actually has the word “guranteed” in it.
