Oh, great. The only university in a cold weather state that my D’17 will be applying to. They will now be flooded with more applications than they normally receive, though Wesleyan holds a special place for kids who find it to be in their ‘fit zone’.
Well, the up-side is indeed the honor for LMM and Mr. Kail. Can’t knock that.
@Waiting2exhale Thank you for mentioning Tommy Kail. He and Alex Lacamoire are very important contributors to the enormous success of the show and they rarely get the credit they deserve.
I tried Sunday night, but couldn’t find any tickets for a date before the Ds head back to college or after they’d be home. The next morning H said I should have just bought two for us. Sure. I would have been disowned!
What’s everyone’s favorite song? I’m just beginning to get into the second side and don’t recognize all the songs off the top of my head, but my favorite so far is “You’ll Be Back.” When I first heard it, I kind of thought to myself (being the Beatlephile I am), this sounds kind of mid-period Beatle-y, with the harpsichord and the bass line and the da-da-da-da and the “everybody” near the end (reminiscent of All You Need is Love). Well, turns out in their brilliance, LMM and Alex Lacamoire deliberately arranged the song with British Invasion (get it?) touches. Freaking brilliant!
Oh I love “You’ll be Back” , but I also like “Helpless” , “The Room Where it Happens”, and several more.
D bought me the OBC soundtrack for Mother’s Day. Each of the CDs is one day’s commute to/from work and I alternate them.
I don’t know if the show will really cover this very much, as I don’t know how much dialogue there is (I’ve read very minimal), but really, as brilliant as he was and as much as he contributed to the early history of our country, he was his own worst enemy and fabricated his own downfall; it just screams at you from Chernow’s book. So it’s sometimes hard to feel sorry for him, but then I hear “It’s Quiet Uptown” again, and I feel such sadness for he and Eliza.
I really love the entire soundtrack, especially (this week) “One Last Time”, “Right Hand Man” and “Guns and Ships”. I’d say that “Dear Theodosia” is my least favorite, and sometimes I’ll skip past the Maria Reynolds related songs because they make me so mad at A.H. The first half of the album is actually great to work out to, but if I’m still going when “it’s Quiet Uptown” comes on, it is tears and not sweat pouring down my face.
I was blessed to get two 4th row center orchestra tickets for an October show during Sunday night’s ticket release, and am beyond thrilled. DH and I will enjoy a well-deserved grown up trip to NYC guilt-free; my boys have had so many more cool experiences than I did by their age ;). I actually did try to get tickets for them with no success, so they’ll just have to wait for the Los Angeles tour.
I’ve discovered that several of the songs are the perfect beat to run to – Helpless, The Room Where it Happens, My Shot, Right Hand Man, and What’d I Miss. And I love all of those.
My faves change over time. Right now I love the ones with Daveed Diggs (Jefferson) like What Did I Miss and the one where he sings with such malice and glee “never gonna be President now.”. I make new listeners sit through The Cabinet because I think that one captures the idea of combining wonky policy and history and young people’s music.
I listened to the score on an airplane again last week. I was literally sobbing out loud through “It’s Quiet Uptown.” I was embarrassed by my reaction in such a public place, but I couldn’t help myself. I don’t think a song has ever touched me so deeply.
Hamilton documentary, as in a “Alexander Hamilton” the historical person documentary?
OR
Hamilton documentary, as in “Hamilton, the musical” documentary?
OR
A combination of both?
If it’s the first, has he indicated who is producing it?
It’s official. Javier Munoz will take over the role of Hamilton on July 11th. I’ve been on twitter looking for announcements from the other stars but I haven’t found any. (I guess Chris Jackson will go for sure because his pilot will get picked up. We also know that LOJr. will take a break to tour for his album but I certainly hope he returns.)
Sorry if this has been asked before but I haven’t gone through all 18 pages—
Is there a bad seat in the theater? H is looking at tickets for his birthday, and the prices, of course, are up there. So if we are going to drop the $$ we don’t want to end up missing half of the show or something.
Thanks!
PS didn’t know if anyone had posted this—these 3 boys performed at an event where the theme was “roles I will never play”. They sang as the sisters and a few nights ago were on Maya and Marty:
