Hamilton the musical

And now a word from my Facebook feed. Yes, I am mildly obsessed and follow all things Hamilton there, on Twitter, and on Instagram! The original cast will be filmed during two upcoming performances prior to LMM’s departure.

This showed up in my FB feed:

I hadn’t seen it before but it may have been posted previously.

I have watched that clip a dozen times. Love it! “I’ve got the ladies unbuttoning their buttonhole … Ask Abigail.” “…from Hancock in Massachusetts to Lynch in Carolina” (nod to Colbert’s South Carolina origin?). “You say you’re a Founder, you look like a Loster.” The cleverness is packed so tight!

Philippa Soo (Eliza) is also leaving the show July 9th. I read somewhere that she will be joining the Chicago cast of Hamilton as Chicago is her hometown, but I couldn’t find the source article. She also has a voice role in Moana :).

More information on the documentary from today’s Vulture post:

It’s like John Laurens said: We’ll never be truly free until there’s a Hamilton documentary on public TV. To that end, then, PBS is making a Hamilton episode of its Great Performances series. It’s being called Hamilton’s America (and we just live in it), and it’s debuting October 17. (You’re just going to have to wait for it.)

Hamilton’s America has been filming in all the rooms where Hamilton has happened since 2013, and will chart the evolution of the smash musical. Alex Horwitz is directing the 90-minute film, and he just so happens to be one of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s “best friends from college,” so he didn’t have any trouble gaining access to his notoriously close-lipped subject. Says Miranda, “He’s got this insane footage because he was like, ‘Can I throw a camera on you since you’re writing this thing?’” In addition to a heavy dose of the man behind the man on the front of the ten, Hamilton’s America will apparently feature interviews with the likes of George W. Bush, the Obamas, Jimmy Fallon, and Questlove, as well as sit-downs between Miranda and Stephen Sondheim, John Weidman, and Nas. And despite the flood of Hamilton content already out there, Miranda promises Hamilton’s America won’t be your average founding-of movie: “It’s not the road to Broadway. We lived that movie already … This is sort of where Hamilton intersects with history.” Sure, sir!

"Alex Horwitz is directing the 90-minute film, and he just so happens to be one of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s “best friends from college,” so he didn’t have any trouble gaining access to his notoriously close-lipped subject. "

I wouldn’t have described LMM as “notoriously close-lipped.” He seems enthusiastic, energetic and very outgoing and open to talk to and get ideas from people. Unless there is something I’ve missed?

Yes, she is from the northern suburbs; she was two years younger than D2 and their paths crossed in high school productions. I’m sure she is very excited to be coming home to reprise her role here, but I’m glad I get to see her in NYC (hoping tomorrow’s not her day off!), too.

“Notoriously close-lipped subject?!”
BAHAHAHA

Philippa Soo will be back on Broadway in “Amélie” next spring:

So we saw Beautiful last night and LOVED it (got great seats through TKTS)!

Our Hamilton spin class today was taught by a guy who is currently in Kinky Boots (he is also teaching another class at 10:45 today - I don’t know how he does it). It was one of the hardest things I’ve ever attempted to do (and I just started Crossfit a couple of weeks ago). THANK GOD they keep the room dark most of the time so no one could really see I spent most of the time on the seat as opposed to standing up. I had no idea spin class kept you on your feet most of the time, and my quads are NOT in that kind of shape. But it was a fun class, singing through enough songs to get you through 45 minutes. I’m guessing I was close to, if not the oldest one in the class.

Doors to the theater open at 1:15 today, so D and I are going to go then to buy whatever swag we’ve been eying online. She wants to get H an A. Ham baseball cap so I can bring it back to him tomorrow for his Father’s Day gift. I saw someone wearing a tank today at spin class that said:
Angelica
Eliza
Becky
on it. I might get something like that if they have it in a tank. I really don’t wear/collect many t-shirts anymore, but we’ll see what they have.

Then we managed to get tickets for Waitress tonight.

Have a wonderful time, @teriwtt! You’re squeezing a lot into your visit.

@teriwtt, I am so impressed you made it through spin class! When we are in NYC, I just count walking five times more than usual as my workout.

@yauponredux - my daughter got us a room about two blocks from the Richard Rodgers theater so we’ve not done too much walking so far. Gone as far south as 35th (for bagels) and we’ll do our last walking tonight. I am exhausted and still have another dinner and show to go to tonight! Time to grab a quick cat nap.

Honestly, the way the story/show ends, I am also emotionally exhausted. If I had a chance, I don’t know if I could see it again tonight or tomorrow even if we managed to get tickets again.

My DH composed and performed a song at our wedding. When you marry a musical genius I guess this is what you get:

Well, that’s not LMM’s song :-). Thank Sheldon Harnick and Jerry Bock! But yes, it’s totally adorable.

That settles it. LMM is the most adorable human on the planet.

We are going again in March 2017… was able to snag 3 tickets after the Tony’s. Going to drag H along with me and D. Can’t wait. This is definitely a must see show.

Anyone hear who will be replacing Philippa Soo? One of her understudies, Carleigh Bettiol, just announced she is staying with Hamilton at least into the fall. She apparently played the lead part opposite LMM a few days before the Tonys and LMM said on Twitter that she was magnificent.

I’ve known her since she was a little girl. I remember the first time I saw her on stage. She was 7 or 8. I asked my friend, who was from this small town and I was not, " Who is that girl? She has incredible stage presence." I pretty much saw her in shows and dance recitals every year until she left after graduating college. My S played opposite her as a lead in at least 3 or 4 theater productions. D1 was very involved with her in dance. So happy for her. You will see her again.

I wonder if she will be offered the lead.

Wish me good karma for when Chicago opens up on Tuesday for ticket purchases!
