Hamilton the musical

The good news is that it’s an open run, so expect at least two years; if you don’t get any tickets this time around, there will be more opportunities. Both D and I are going to hit Ticketmaster’s website exactly at 10AM and hope one of us manages to score something.

Isn’t Carleigh Caucasian?

Oh, how I wish they would allow a broadcast of it. Maybe someday, right?

:::::::::sigh::::::

Carleigh has an Italian last name.

Does that preclude being Caucasian? (Maybe Italian being a Romance language, and thus the tie to ‘latino’?)

You can be white and be understudy/ensemble (or King George), but not a lead, I believe.

When we saw it on Broadway, the understudy for all three Schulyer sisters – Alysha Deslorieux – performed in the role of Eliza, replacing Philippa Soo. Truth be told - we liked her better than Philippa.

Carleigh is Caucasian. What is Alysha Deslorieux’s ethnicity?

Alysha is African American.

Well I guess she would be the more desirable replacement because of her talent and ethnicity,

Just wanted to say that I have not seen the show, but H ordered the soundtrack and we listened to it on a road trip today, all in one sitting. Our sons were also in the car and after we finished act 1, I asked if everyone wanted to continue. 15 yo piped up, Yes! He is big into History but usually groans at the idea of musical theater. His favorite songs were King George’s but he was enjoying the cabinet battles too. 13 yo S has been wandering the house saying “I am not throwing away my shot!”

I found it very moving, and admit to tearing up during It’s Quiet Uptown and also the final song as well. I hope I am lucky enough to see it performed live someday.

Leslie Odom Jr. is also leaving as of July 9th. Now that’s sad.

Hamilton quote of the day:

“I’ve only seen it 18 times. It’s very hard to get tickets.” – Lin-Manuel Miranda’s dad.

While we didn’t see Jonathan Groff play King George (he already left the show), Rory O’Malley did such a fabulous job at interpreting those three songs! They’re funny just to listen to, but when you see the expressions and movements, it just adds SO much more to the songs!

^^Haha.

I will have to say, D and I looked up ticket prices for our show in our seating area (we were exactly center orchestra, 15 rows up) and they were selling for $3100+/each! That’s just crazy. Even as much as I loved the show, I couldn’t justify that. I had a father and son sitting next to me, and I’m guessing the son couldn’t have been more than 7-8 years old and I thought, “I really hope this dad got his tickets the same way we did and wasn’t paying $3000+ each ticket.” I just don’t think a kid that age could appreciate it; and yes, there were a handful of times during the show he would start to ask his dad questions in his full talking voice (not whispering) and his dad would have to ‘shush’ him. But what do I know?

As much as I plan to use the tickets I recently purchased, it’s tempting to think of the opportunity cost of selling them.

Tickets for Hamilton Chicago go on sale tomorrow at 10am CT. Good luck!!!

May the odds be ever in our favor!

D1 and I have our strategy in place. Hopefully between the two of us, we can get four tickets for one show… problem is, it has to be during the last two weeks in December :-S
