Hamilton the musical

Teriwtt, my family also has a strategy in place. The code word is Rochambeau.

You can also order through BroadwayinChicago.com. I wonder if doing that might have less traffic than Ticketmaster?

I had a horrible dream last night that I was helping one of D’s friends who recently had a baby, and I missed the 10AM mark; when I realized I had missed it and I didn’t have my laptop with me, I stopped at a retail store with computers and attempted to use their computers to buy tickets. It didn’t work, but then I got a text from D that she’d gotten the tickets. Oh, vey, this obsession has got to end!

LOL, I wonder how many of us had ticket buying dreams last night. My dream was that I had a whole lot of things in a Ticketmaster shopping cart, and in my speed to purchase Hamilton tickets, I also purchased a whole lot of things I didn’t want/need, including 7 days in Disneyworld.

If you go through Broadway in Chicago, you end up at Ticketmaster in short order. (H has never tried to buy tickets online, so last night I took him through a pretend transaction to buy a Book of Mormon ticket, stopping of course, at the point at which we had to pay.)

Chicago Tribune is running a story right now (went up less than 30 minutes ago), reporting that lines are stretching around a full city block; they show a picture of some children in line, asleep. I wish they would stop advertising the show until AFTER I get tickets!

My two alarms (iPhone and bedside table) have just gone off to remind me… in case I forgot!

Ugh… I have to ‘sit tight - we’re securing your tickets’.

But the wait keeps going up and down between 12-23 minutes.

Same with D.

Well that was scary. I had to ‘sit tight’ for over 30 minutes, but D and I each got 4 tickets for the week before Christmas on different dates, so we’ll sell one set once we have an idea of which date will work best for us!

Now I can move on with my life!

Congrats @teriwtt!

Good for you. Six of us had “sit tight” for a very long time and one by one the screen went away and we lost whatever we had.

This is ridiculous… a handful of premium seats for each performance are selling on Stubhub for $8,000/each. WGN just did a story about the Ticketmaster snafu.

Teriwtt rocked – I alas did not! I was holding 6 tickets for a date in March, went into the “hang tight, we are processing and the wait time is X minutes” queue and after about 40 minutes or so, got kicked out … it then started to re-search, but for only 5 tickets … nothing … I then took myself down to 2 tickets … and I am currently still waiting for it to find 2 tickets, best available, for a date in either Feb or Mar. Pretty soon, I am going to throw away my shot

Just heard from my sister who got us 5 tickets in December

Have any of you Chicago Hamilton seekers tried using the Amex Platimum concierge? We had fairly good luck using them to get tickets back in November for Broadway on June 14th (just got back from that trip, and I’m still floating on air…) Anyway, that route might be less frustrating if your credit card offers concierge service. Good luck!

I have an Amex Platinum but I thought it was only the Amex Centurion (the black card) that offered that service (and offered access to presale)? Maybe I"m wrong and I’ve been stupid here! Thanks for the suggestion, will investigate.

Try the ticketmaster app. We were able to get enough tickets for a date in March, but in singles and doubles. The app is the only site where tickets have actually come up.

@missypie - D was on her app, and I was on my laptop. She definitely got through quicker than I did, by about 15 minutes.

@Pizzagirl , I definitely don’t have the black card, but I can confirm that the Amex Platinum concierge was extremely helpful in securing five orchestra seats for us (but even way back in 2015, he could only get three seats in one row and two seats directly behind.) The concierge was no help at all in getting Adele tickets for us, so they can’t always work miracles, but it’s worth a try! The number is 800.525.3355 (Option 2)

Now that I have tickets, I wanted to add that I DID finish the book last night. I was really looking forward to reading the Epilogue about Eliza. I was struck by these words in the book, “She thought that God, in snatching Hamilton away, had balanced the ledgers of her life, inflicting exquisite pain equal to her matchless joy in marriage.” And a quote from Eliza, “I have remarked to you (Nathaniel Pendleton) that I have had a double share of blessings and I must now look forward to grief… For such a husband, his spirit is in heaven and his form in the earth and I am nowhere any part of him is.”

She had SO much loss within a couple of years; I really don’t know how she did survived another 50!

Thank you! Just called - there is a recorded message to the effect of “due to the high demand for Hamilton Chicago tickets, we are experiencing lengthy delays. We suggest you try Ticketmaster for your best chance.”

Oh well! I have to console myself that it will be here for quite some time!

Besides, this gives me extra time to practice my rap for “Guns and Ships.”
