Also, regarding the original cast - of course it is always amazing to see the original cast, but the talent on Broadway is miles deep. And I have to confess that as much as I revere LMM, I don’t think he’s a standout acting/singing talent. I suspect Javier Munoz may even be stronger in the role.
For those like me who love both Hamilton and The West Wing, there is a new podcast called The West Wing Weekly evaluating each episode of the show. Evidently, LMM has agreed to guest on one of the episodes, but they are barely only halfway through Season 1. The episode I think he would most likely comment on is Ep. 9 in Season 2 when they talk about Puerto Rico, so I’m guessing it will be some time before his guest commentary happens.
I am not wishing Hamilton or any theatrical production to go away. All of my kid were involved in theater and my 29 tr. old S still is. He was the lead with one of the Hamilton cast members in several plays growing up.
What I have trouble with, is because this is the new fad or in thing to see, ticket prices and availability are only for the wealthy and famous. I mean seats were going for thousands of dollars. That is just nuts. Kind of like parents paying ridiculous prices for Tickle Me Elmo years ago at Christmas.
I think LMM should make a fortune on this. More power to him.
They are incredibly generous with the Ham4Ham program and the programs to enable schoolchildren to see it for low cost.
In Chicago, pricing the premium tickets higher worked … It has kept the scalping prices not as ridiculous as they were in NY.
Fwiw, my tix are $177 apiece - not cheap, but not over the top ridiculous for a show of this caliber.
Glad you got somewhat decently priced tickets Pizzagirl. But my D1 had to pay over $400/ per ticket. Not for the poor or even most middle class.
I think the programs to enable NYC school children to see the show is great. Having grown up in NYC, that is how we all got to see some shows. My children, growing up in up state NY also experienced the same thing. Hamilton is certainly not unique here.
But the main majority of folk cannot see this show anytime soon or for a reasonable price.
Rosie O’Donnell was supposedly seeing it for the 20-30th time on Lin- Manuel’s last performance.
It is possible with careful planning to not pay the scalpers price. My Son is a ‘poor’ college student who has seen Hamilton 3 times (2 at regular tix price and once he won the $10 lottery) he has a fourth tix purchased for April. He follows it on Twitter and knows exactly when the block of tix go on sale.
Query: is there dialog or is all music as in Les Miserables? I have the OCR, is there dialog between the songs?
All song. There is one thing not on stage that’s not on the soundtrack.
Morrismm, Hamilton’s prices are higher than most shows on Broadway, but not outrageously higher. There are tickets under $400 – your daughter either paid a scalper or got premium seats. I paid under $150 my first time and $170 for next year.
Any hit new show on Broadway – Wicked, Book of Mormon, Cats, Chorus Line, etc. --is unavailable for almost everyone for a long time. That’s just the nature of how Broadway works,. Hamilton will be seen by more people sooner than most hit shows because of the Chicago performance and the traveling show. And the $10 tickets for NYC schoolkids means it will be seen by thousands of low income students.

You Hamilton lovers will appreciate … the original Got Milk commercial - who shot Alexander Hamilton?
Re #409: Even with a prize on the line, I still would say “the Jerk.”
I’m watching Bravo’s “Odd Mom Out” and literally laughing out loud. The main character is in a desperate search for Hamilton tickets. And I thought of this thread.
I’m recommending this to all my Hamilton-loving friends. It’s very clever. http://www.bravotv.com/odd-mom-out/season-2/ep-3-hamming-it-up
It’s unlikely to ‘settle down’ in the near future. As has been said before, this is a once in a generation type phenomenon. If it’s like it’s predecessor, RENT, it will be around for a very long time. RENT was still popular long after the original cast departed, and, to be honest, many of the replacements both on Broadway and in the tour casts, were superior to the originals.
You can tell when a show is something special in the number of people participating in this thread who would be unlikely to be interested in any other theatre-related discussion! It will continue to draw in fans who are new to theatre and, with any luck, who will then extend their theatre purchases to many other wonderful shows.
So, you Chicago ticket holders, here is the casting announcement for many of the roles in the Chicago cast of Hamilton:
As I previously thought, Phillippa Soo is not playing Eliza in this cast, which several earlier in this thread seemed to think. My daughter is friends with Pippa. Actually about ten days ago, Phillippa and her fiancé, actor Steven Pasquale, went out to dinner with my D and her fiancé after their respective shows because Pippa and Steven cannot make it to my D’s wedding (they are invited) in September because they are heading to LA. I asked my D at the time if Pippa would be in the Chicago cast of Hamilton and she highly doubted it given their plans.
BTW, nice to see Karen Olivo back on stage!
^ D and I are also Karen Olivo fans!
So we all “know each other” here on cc. So…we know soozievt, she knows her D who knows Pippa Soo, who knows the rest of the Hamilton cast. Like 6 degrees of separation, right : )
LMM apparently went right out & had his long hair cut. Too bad - I really liked the long hair on him!
^^^Ha, funny. I haven’t even seen Hamilton. Actually, my D is friendly with Lin-Manuel Miranda and he is a huge inspiration in her career. She’d like to become a female version of him. She also found her upcoming wedding venue through Alex Lacamoire, who is the music director and orchestrator for Hamilton, because they are friendly too and have worked together and Alex had his wedding at this venue and so my D looked into it and booked it as well for her nuptials. My D has an exciting opportunity in the works with a producer of Hamilton too. Now, if I could only see the show myself. LOL
I really love LMM’s haircut!
Happy that they’ve finally made the official announcement! I’ve known about Karen for a while and it was hard to keep quiet about that wonderful news. She will be great in that role, I have no doubt.
