Chicago experts, I can’t find any availability for a Marriott property during the two nights we will be in Chicago for our June show. Any advice on what hotels are near the Private Bank Theatre that are nice, but not over the top price wise?
We stayed at the Hyatt Place Chicago Downtown last month, looks to be a few blocks from the theater. Quiet, breakfast included, moderate price, walking distance to Union Station.
Anyone else watching Lin-Manuel in SNL tonight?
Yep. Loved his opening “monologue.”
His opening was the highlight of the show IMO.
The whole show was great, but his opening number left me with my jaw on the floor. What talent to come up with that and perfect it in this short amount of time!
I don’t ordinarily watch TV, but turned it on to watch last night’s SNL. I thought LMM’s opening was terrific and very clever. I also thought the show’s opening was very funny. Same with the weekend update at the news desk! They also added some theater touches with the Wells Fargo number from Music Man and The Crucible cast party. All these segments were the highlights for me. LMM was terrific. Such a talent.
Yep, he was great. So much wide-eyed excitement to be on the SNL stage & you could tell it was genuine.
LMM is so talented–opening number was wonderfully entertaining.
Last November, a CC member posted that a new block of Hamilton tickets were about to go on sale. Right away, I went online and purchased tickets for yesterday’s show. I was juggling 4 different schedules and 10/8/16 was the first date I could be reasonably confident all of us could make the show. S, who was relatively local last year, has since moved to Boston. He spent 10 hours round trip on a train to be with us. It was a wonderful day and a wonderful show.
Some random takeaways…audience was completely engaged in the show. At times you could hear a pin drop…Several key roles were filled by understudies, including Hamilton. He was pretty good, but I wished we’d seen Javier Munoz (or even better, LMM)…easy to spot the HamFans - they knew every word to every song…Hamilton pop-up shop opened across the street from the theater on Friday. Long lines to get in…Loved the 8 young people behind us, all wearing Wesleyan t shirts in a nod to LMM’s alma mater…
So happy that SNL went well for LMM. I guess because I’ve followed him for so long, I felt protective of him…I didn’t want him to be in a sketch that totally bombed (and with the writing lately, it was a distinct possibility.) Besides the his “monologue”, I loved the Spanglish sketch and the Crucible Cast Party. H and I were both HS theatre kids and it was absolutely on point.

My son was one of the extras on the SNL “Crucible Cast Party” sketch. He was shimmying about 3 feet from Lin Manuel Miranda. This has really impressed the girl he’s been dating.
@rosered55, I had read a little about this sad narrative in Hamilton: The Revolution, the book that details the development of the musical. It’s so nice to read this article and see how Mr. Eustis and his family are healing from their family tragedy. Thanks for sharing.
A reminder that “Hamilton’s America” will be on PBS this Friday night (October 21st) at 9 PM Eastern time:http://www.pbs.org/wnet/gperf/episodes/hamiltons-america/ A backstage look? Absolutely, I’ll be watching.
^ I’ll be traveling overseas but it’s being recorded so I can watch when I get back.
I live in an area where we have 2 separate PBS stations and they sometimes have glitches in the digital delivery, so I have set my DVR to record both showings in order to hedge my bets - can’t wait!
