hand props = fussy?

i’ve always thought that using a small hand prop in an audition monologue was a tad fussy. however, in one my own pieces i reference a letter that i am holding. someone told me that if the school says that the use of “letters” or small props is alright, it’d be silly to forgo the option.

what are your thoughts on this (comparatively minor!) aspect?

thank you!

If the school actually states that small props are allowed, then it is OK.

But most college auditions prefer no props. Therefore, you should get used to doing it for most schools without the prop itself. You can act as if you are holding the letter.
