Happy (and windy and wet) Halloween!

Halloween is my favorite holiday - but this one is not shaping up to be very pretty weather wise it seems. Rain and fog this morning, rain and winds predicted for later. :frowning:

Yesterday was the annual Halloween parade on the peds floor at the hospital I work at complete with Super Heroes (police officers in costume) rapelling off the roof of the hospital and stopping at the windows of the kids rooms. <3 Goodies (non food) galore for the inpatient kids.

I have my arsenal of small candy bars, fruit snacks and mini cans of PlayDoh ready to go at home. Me thinks I may be left with lots of leftovers or be handing out handfuls of candy to the brave trick or treaters!

Hope somewhere in the country there is more pleasant Halloween weather!

We had hundreds of kids last year and I’m supplied for a repeat of that number but it’s currently snowing and super windy. Supposed to be windy and rainy this afternoon. We’ll see what happens with our numbers.

Our city holds T or T the Sunday before the 31st, so families had decent weather.

I’m looking out the window right now in disbelief. Snow on the ground. (Chicagoland).

This is a major betrayal of the calendar, lol.

I have quite a few Halloween candy favorites. Twix. Reese’s. Snickers. Lemon heads. Mounds. Sweet tarts.

My mom used to slave over the stove making caramel popcorn balls to hand out. She was really into it, and we always got roped in to help unwrap the caramel or wrap the popcorn balls.

Good memories!

We’ve had 9 months in the last 12 with snow. It’s really horrible.

Also Chicago and just walked my dog. It sucks outside… Lol… Still need to put away outdoor furniture etc this weekend.

We don’t really get a lot of kids anymore on our block. Like two blocks over they get a lot of kids but Monday like literally thousands were out on Southport and Lincoln area going door to door to business and the community makes it a grand time. Like thousands were out… ?.

I love Halloween but it’s not shaping up to be a good one here. The front is headed our way and they’re calling for winds upward of 50 mph with major thunderstorms beginning at 5 pm. Don’t know that we’ll have many trick or treaters (we never do) but I’m ready for them. Sabapuppy loves kids so I was looking forward to her first Halloween.

I love caramel popcorn balls, Midwest. A popular treat when I was young too.

Our town and some businesses are having a “party”. It was supposed to be outdoors but has been move indoors. The kids will have fun!

Pouring here right now but by trick or treating time it should just be a drizzle. Some neighboring towns changed rescheduled their hours but not mine. We’ve had worse though as kids have gone out in snow flurries a few years. At least it is warmish today here.

I just bought candy yesterday and cut way back and it will probably still be too much.

It’s going to be 75 degrees here in SoCal today for Halloween. H and I are going to the elementary school where D1 teaches kindergarten to hand out candy at their trunk or treat event from 4-6. Then we head to our friends house. Their neighborhood is all decorated for Halloween and we have dinner and hand out candy there.

Rainy and windy here. Our church usually holds an outdoor “Trunk or Treat” event, but they’re moving it indoors. They’re anticipating a large turnout if parents don’t want to take their kids door-to-door in the rain.

We live on a quiet cul-de-sac. There used to be a lot of kids on it, but they’ve all grown up. We didn’t get a single trick or treater last year, so we’ll probably leave our lights off this year.

It’s cold and wet in Michigan today - expected to be 39 degrees with 100% chance of rain this evening. I have lots of candy, but I doubt we’ll have lots of trick or treaters. However, my neighbor & I will have a wonderful time hanging out together on my porch, enjoying a tasty adult beverage or two (hidden when the kiddies stop by, of course) and chatting. We know how to dress for the weather!

^^THIS. This is what I’m seeing on the neighborhood FB groups today. Whiny parents! I mean, it’s weather, what can you do?!

Kids don’t really care if they get a little wet! It’s the parents who don’t want to go out in less than ideal conditions. (Understood that it’s more extreme in some areas). Take the kids out for a shorter jaunt - but if they are excited, take them out! So many of the costumes are “warm” costumes anyway.

It’s just damp here now, but supposed to start raining for real aound 4 pm. We’re in a weird little loop on the wrong side of a busy road, so we usually just get the kids on our block while the bulk of the partying goes on in the rest of the neighborhood.

Our community does trick or treat on the Friday before Halloween. Last Friday was a beautiful night and we had a great time sitting around a fire pit with friends. We only get a couple of dozen kids so it’s very casual and more about our gathering. Tonight here is forecast to be heavy rain right at the time that kids would be going out. Our kids have gone out in bad weather, including snow, but this year, on Friday was a win!

@abasket I just read where both our cities rescheduled trick or treating. It will be Sunday night. Not only are we dealing with rain all day and night, but they are predicting 40mph winds.

I wish families would go back to trick or treating in their own neighborhoods, seeing people they actually know. Around here it has become a thing to do the trunk or treats or go to a certain neighborhood which now sees the bulk of the activity. I think a lot gets lost with that.

And bah humbug on moving it to a different day during daylight hours. No magic in that!

Everything has become so sanitized. Yeah, I know… “safety”.

How does a city or town get to say when Halloween is?

Police chief in my town. Kind of hard to trick or treat if no one is expecting you.

They even tell us the hours, which I like. Everyone knows what time the porch light gets turned off.

Thanks for that heads up @toledo ! I’ve seen the neighboring suburbs changing but am surprised (but fine) with the city delaying!
