Nearly 80, incredibly muggy, and very windy, and under a tornado watch here in Chapel Hill. We’ve only had a handful of kids come thru very early, so far. I’m going to have SO MUCH CANDY!!
S2 went to the friend’s house and they ordered pizza. So even if ToT is a bust for them, he’ll have some fun. @momofsenior1 S is a cow too!!
Out on the porch in a rocking chair with the candy basket. The rain has stopped, the weather is balmy and the breeze gentle but…only had around six groups of kids (2-4) in the last hour.
I live on THE street in town where kids flock from every neighborhood (lots of Victorian houses) and they’ve always come out en masse…as in $100-worth-of-candy crowds! Fortunately this year I didn’t buy any until this afternoon and just a little, with the dire forcast. This is the first year I didn’t cut the pumpkins into jack-o-lanterns or decorate with spooky things. Kind of sad, hoping for greater festivities and lots of little goblins next year
Wow, 7:05 and dead silence. Usually you can’t catch your breath until 8PM.
So we have alot of candy and DH has been telling kids, “take 3 or 4”.
So this little cutie pie comes up says trick-or-treat, very adorable. DH leans down w/ the bowl and she takes one (1). Dh says hi, take 3 or 4 while she’s grabbing another (2).
Oh! 3 or 4? Ok, probably 4 (takes another). 1 (take), 2 (take), 3 (take), 4 (take).
Absolutely flipping adorable!!! LMAO!!!
My “awww” moment was when a cute “little” boy (around 12) looked down at his clothes and said ever-so-politely, “if you’re wondering what I am, I’m a moody teenager.”
I live in Denver. It is often 75 one day and snowing the next, but this week was particularly cold with the temperatures dipping into the single digits.
My kids used to trick or treat at a small street of businesses near their school every Halloween. Many years at 80 degrees and costumes with bikini tops and grass skirts and others with snow or rain and wearing snowsuits to keep warm. We adapt. The best thing was going to the nuns’ house (not a convent, just a house) and getting holy cards and then going to the priest’s house and getting free homework passes.
@doschicos well, the rumor was true…JPJ is there! D23 sent me a photo of her and JPJ. When I asked her if she sent the photo to her sister, she replied that he actually made a video for D17 with a personalized message to her. She sent it to me -it was cute. She said he’s very nice. D17 is going to freak!
The weather has held off so far but it has gotten very windy. We didn’t get many kids this year. Seems like we got more when my own kids were little, which is weird b/c there are way more young kids in the neighborhood now than when they were young. We are on a peninsula that is only a few streets wide but the streets that run the length of the peninsula are about 1/2 mile long. I’m wondering if the kids mostly stayed down at one end of the peninsula. I only had about 30 or so.
It was a really hot day in FL so no one came until after the sun set. I sat on the front porch to see all the kids and we had a lot of kids 6 and under and a ton of teenagers. Not many at all in between.
I bought plenty of candy so told everyone they could have a few. About 8:00 I went inside for a quick bathroom break. Came back and all the candy was gone. I have another unopened bag, but my good cheer is gone. So I locked the door and turned off all the lights.
We ended up with about 90 - probably 60% of what we normally get. The first hour was cooler and windy but dry. Then it started to rain - BIG drops of rain and the temperature dropped even more. I was surprised we had anyone in the last hour.
Everyone looked dressed warm except for two teen girls with “bloody” tshirts on.
Figuring we would have less I encouraged the kids to take more. As always, the big hit is the little cans of PlayDoh. Never any left.
Here in south Florida it’s 85 and humid. This evening the weatherman suggested that kids carry an ice pack in their trick or treat bag to keep the chocolate from melting .
Weather is gorgeous here in HNL—often it’s windy and sometimes rainy for 10/31. Lots of kids do celebrations at the mall the weekend before and at school. We are rarely home so I never know how much to buy. I don’t have much but we will see how many tykes we get.
My sister gets hundreds at her home and offers bottled water and Capri sun juices or candy, kid’s choice. She says they often take beverages.
It’s flipping cold just southwest of Austin! It’s going to actually freeze tonight and we had to bring in the potted plants. On the plus side DH built a nice fire in the fireplace for me:-)
Only about 75 or so kids tonight about half of what we normally get. This year we have glow sticks and candy and I was surprized at what a hit the glow sticks were, even with the teens.
Omg just had the crap scared out of me and flashbacks to the derecho that hit DC years ago. In that storm the top of one of our tall trees sheared off and came through our bedroom window just missing dh who was in bed sleeping.
Just now I was laying in bed readi when the wind suddenly picked up pretty fiercely. Just as the power went out I heard a huge bang right outside our bedroom and lots of loud noise as well as my car alarm going off. Jumped out of bed, woke the kids and ran to basement. Ran back upstairs to my room to grab my phone and could smell tree sap as our bedroom window was open.
Back downstairs I could hear my neighbor outside saying OMG over and over. Went out in the pitch and could see a huge branch on my side yard. Went to my back deck and yelled to my neighbor who was walking around in the pitch dark with a flashlight - he yelled back that my heat pump was crushed. Sure enough-I shined the flashlight on it and it’s demolished. Looked out in street and our basketball hoop blew over as well as our lax goal. Couldn’t really see much else because it’s dark and still raining. Power is out.
Ugh. Looks like we will be calling USAA in the morning. They were wonderful last time this happened. Just so thankful this happened well after the trick or treaters were home and in bed!
I’m away on business but DW just told me not a single kid came to our house for T or T. We normally don’t get that many (10 kids), but zero this year? Sad…
Well we’ve had 3 groups so far and it’s only 6:36. Have been giving our small bottles of water for parents and tots, which have been appreciated, as well as candy for the tots.
Super scary @4kids4us! Glad no one was harmed but OmG!
