I am gearing up to spend the weekend in my office, alternating between grading papers and packing (we are getting new carpet). Can you all recommend some music to make these activities more bearable?

Anything ragtime.

I have a CD of someone playing Scott Joplin’s piano pieces, which my daughter gave me for Christmas. I love to play it in the car, especially when stuck in traffic.

[Claude Bolling / Jean-Pierre Rampal - Claude Bolling: Suite for Flute and Jazz Piano Trio CD Album](Rampal Bolling - Suite For Flute CD Album)

I’m in a jazzy mood lately.

[John Klemmer - Barefoot Ballet CD Album](<a href=“CD Universe - Your Online Music and Movie Store”>John Klemmer - Barefoot Ballet CD Album)

But this song I also love.( from Into the Wild soundtrack)

[Into the Wild - Rise (Eddie Vedder) - YouTube](<a href=“Into the Wild - Rise (Eddie Vedder) - YouTube”>Into the Wild - Rise (Eddie Vedder) - YouTube)

When I am working I love listening to Irish Heartbeat — Van Morrison’s CD he made with The Chieftans back in the 80’s.

And, since I’m in So Cal…LOVE the Beach Boys “Pet Sounds”

<a href=“beach boys - God Only Knows - Pet Sounds - YouTube”>www.youtube.com/watch?v=DpoNd_YAAPs&feature=related

Jake Shimabukuro. Mostly instrumental music. Ukulele, but not what you’d think of as classic “Hawaiian”.

George Winston. Piano. Four old but wonderful albums based on the seasons, titled Winter, Spring, Summer, and Autumn.

Leo Kottke old album called “Dreams and All That Stuff” instrumental guitar.

I like to have instrumental music playing if I’m doing work that requires concentrating.

You inspired me to get tickets for Kottke/Shimabukuro when they play together at our zoo next month, east coast.
My H isn’t interested, do you want to go with?

I did Karaoke last night and have had the happy buzz all day. Sang Do Wah Diddy by Manfred Mann and Cara Mia by Jay and the Americans…

Ooohhh, Emeraldkity4, I would love that concert! Are they touring together, or is it a one time concert?

It looks like they are touring together.
I just hope it doesn’t rain- the zoo bans umbrellas (just for the concert series)

Grading papers? Packing? Yikes. This calls for something… energetic.

I’d listen to this (when I do, I usually sing along, really loudly and, of course, off key ;)):

[url=<a href=“Fun.: We Are Young ft. Janelle Monáe [OFFICIAL VIDEO] - YouTube”>Fun.: We Are Young ft. Janelle Monáe [OFFICIAL VIDEO] - YouTube]Fun.:[/url]

One of my friends sings with Lady Gaga when she (the friend) is at work late at night crunching her data.

I’d probably go with The Kinks and 1950s dance music - stuff like Rock Around the Clock. I agree lively at least for the packing part. Grading papers - I like the idea of something without words - ragtime sounds like fun. If you want something completely different you could listen to Apocalyptica - heavy metal on cellos: [Apocalyptica “Hall of The Mountain King” (official full length live video) - YouTube](<a href=“Apocalyptica - Hall of The Mountain King (Official Video) - YouTube”>Apocalyptica - Hall of The Mountain King (Official Video) - YouTube) or [Apocalyptica - Path [HD 720p] - YouTube](<a href=“- YouTube”>- YouTube) I love the Path video - so much fun visually.

BunsenBurner, I went to listen to your link and got p!$$ed off by having to first listen to a 30-second commercial. That was the thing that annoys me so much that I started the “Things That Annoy You” thread!!

[Librarians Do Gaga - YouTube](<a href=“Librarians Do Gaga - YouTube”>Librarians Do Gaga - YouTube)
Commercial free:)

EK, that’s great! I just sent it to a young friend of mine who is library school.

I’d be listening to my local oldies station. . .

EK, that’s great! VH - soooo sorry! I must have missed the &%$@ commerical because I ran out to grab a snack.

Can’t beat the oldies, atomom! :)

Vampire Weekend is good for uplifting music…Katie Costello has some good bouncy music and some more serious. I also love Colbie Caillat and Sara Bareilles.

Africa, Never Stand Still, a 3 CD 1994 release by Ellipses Arts - it is online and you can download - great workout music, too.

Santana Supernatural

Anything Tom Petty

Paganini Caprices if you like violin

I am stuck in the 70s for happy music, this is what is on my player for driving long distances or working in the office alone: the Bolling/Rampal, I like Santana Borboletta best, the Blackbyrds, Earth, Wind & Fire, Derek and the Dominos, Steely Dan, Bruce Hornsby (spirit trail), Paul Simon’s Gracelalnd, some Toots and the Maytails…and as uncool and as unhip as it is and was…I can never resist being happy listening to Chicago.

Supertramp.
