got i hate sat math so much because i always think its too easy (even the hard ones) and i end up always making a careless mistake and thats gonna cost me NMSF…so stupid…

i guess this year i twould be the one with the arcs/the box one/the line one (although it was easy once you knews y2=-y1…)

i missed the parabola one because of stupid mistake and i checked it toolol

btw for the reflection of a line, did you guys get B or D. i know it was x+2y=-1 but B or D

None. The shape of the square had an intuitive solution and a mathematical one

36 - 2 ( 9pi/4) - 2(9 - 9pi/4) = 18

Or 36/2 = 18.

The hardest I’d say was probably the combination… but since it’s MC… I put my spare 10 minutes into writing 19 different combinations and then circling 27.

i manage to double check all the problems except the grid-ins so i somehow made a horrible mistake on the parabola one (subtracted instead of added) and got the wrong answer…which kinda sucks because i was banking on a 80 in math since ill get like 65 in CR.

what do you think 1 wrong will be 77/76/75?

yea i know…im an idiot i think i was a little to cocky taking the test…it was simple with logic since its symmetry but i subtracted 5-(-2) instead of added/2-i notced the mistake by myself after the test but obviously too late

thats why i wished the math test was like SAT II math or harder so easier curve (for careless mistakes, i can do all the problems) for people like me that can get 150s on AMC 10 but not 80 in math PSAT

its probalby gonna haunt me, like ive stated, i needed an 80 in math to get NMSF in my state considering i usally average around 70 writing, (i know i missed 3 already) nad 65 reading (i know i missed 3-4 already)

I missed the volume of the rectangle one… I’m such an idiot…

I was thinking “Oh, all the sides are 4 now! Wait, the height is +1… so it’s 5!” (The height was 7 right?)

My school informed us last Friday that we were taking the PSAT on Wednesday. Thankfully I’m only a sophmore, so I get one more shot at redemption!

The cube’s volume question is going to bug me until I find out what it was. Would someone, who is reasonably sure they got it right, post the answer, please? I came to 84 (7x3x4) as the answer but that was probably done by using some absurd “logic” only known to me.

Also, I was confused by the fact that the box lacked a top, what does that mean in terms of volume? Would the equation be the same (lwh) or would it be something like 1/2 lwh? Because from what I remember, the box only had its four sides and a bottom, no?

Other than that question, I thought the test was pretty easy. A lot easier than I remember from last year.

“neo, if you can score 150 on the AMC colleges will obviously know that you’ve got above-average mathematical skills.”

yea i know but i want the NMSF for scholarship, i dont care whether colleges care if im good at math or not, it doesnt matter how good i am at math, if i miss one question, its like 4 points off and i might not get like that 3,000 auto scholarship (and full tuition to state college if i somehow choose to go…which i doubt)

looks like a lot of people made careless mistakes though, a person at my school who got 7 on AIME last year missed 2 questions (volume one because he thought height was 7, and the inequality one because he solved for x, not for x-2/6), gasp.

^ the height of that prism WAS 7. and i think the math on the psat does not accurately determine one’s aptitude in math.

oh and i just talked to my college counselor and he told me that while it’s great to get recognition for psats, it’s better to do well on the sats.

i’m just hoping my (hopefully) 2300+ sat score will counteract the fact that i might only make commended this yr.

yea i meant he thought it was 6, sorry, mistyped

anyways, im in same situation as u…i think ill only get commended this year (ill probably get 205-215 not good enough for NMSF), and i know PSAT doesnt matter for college applications (only for scholarships, as college board does not send PSAT scores),

but my stupid school puts the PSAT scores on the high school transcript, so colleges can still see that i didnt do as well on this test then i was supposed to if i end up getting 2300+ on SAT (since last year i got 213, this year if i get 210 itll make me look like i deproved when i just made a few more careless mistakes)
