obviously it also depends on what you do
for example me running 7 miles at 7 minute pace= no problem swim half a mile= oh ****
for swimmers its the opposite

I think it would have to be gymnastics. I have played soccer, volleyball, basketball, XC, and track. (Soccer is my main sport) I did gymanstics when I was younger and man it is tough. I even lost my front tooth when I didn’t chalk my hand up well enough. My hand slipped and I hit my face on the bar. (probably the most pain I have been in in my life…and I have broken 3 bones, dislocated my knee, tore my quad, had to get stitches in my head, etc)

Seriously, serious gymnasts live and breath gymnastics. It is really all that they do. But this is really for the most competitive gymnasts. For the average athelete in a specific sport, it is really hard to say. Runners and swimmers have to do lengthy work-outs and is more about pushing yourself to keep yourself sane in continuing to participate in that sport. Hardest sport–just about any team sport. Not only does each individual have to be good, but it is hard to get everyone on the team to work together. Plus- for most team sports like v-ball,b-ball, and soccer, a lot of training like running (we do a TON of long distance on my soccer team) that other atheletes do. Soccer can be tough…we do XC style workouts, pratice a ton with team pratices, and if you want to be good you have to do a ton of individual work. Plus- in soccer it is 90 min straight with one half time break. No time-outs or anything like that. You basically run XC while having to kick a ball, throw a ball, and trap the ball using just about every part of your body…which can hurt.

So to sum it up. I think it is hard to name one sport harder over another. It depends on the criteria one uses to judge the sports. Plus some sports aren’t that hard at recreational levels, but at more serious levels they can be the hardest (like gymnastics) and vice versa (soccer and running sports).

That diet is not conducive to staying alive.

ya, i probably all agree with you. I dunno, I ski race, seriously, and it is difficult. It is the sport that gets you to the extremes. You stand outside in near spandex suits for a couple hours to get a thirty second run.

You train all season to shave off a second, or you lose because of .01 seconds… It’s probably not the most rewarding…

I was more impressed when I misread this as losing your front foot.

In terms of sheer hell, it’s easily (no particular order)

Water Polo

XC

Wrestling

Easily the most underrated among the typical hs sports. Football/other sports schools waste too much money on are overrated. Like, Lebron overrated.

i agree w/ mcvcm92, cross country and long distance track. excruciating workouts. Run until you throw up then run some more. but that runner’s high is great.

I have done track, tennis, Water Polo, and swimming.

Water polo & Swim are equal in how painfully demanding they are.

The practices are extremely tough and excruciating for both sports but, polo is still tough during games while swimming isn’t that bad during the actual events where you just get to sprint your ass off in a couple events compared to sprinting up and down the pool the whole time in water polo.

Track is like swim, but I really didn’t find it anywhere near as tough.

&
tennis is cool & all, & some games might get intense, but conditioning wise, TENNIS IS A JOKE.
At least compared to other sports.

i don’t know if it is the absolute toughest, but i have to say dance is up there. if you are a serious dancer, you practice constantly have to work incredibly hard. on stage, you must only show the audience your grace and agility, you can’t show the pain, sweat, etc. i think that is the part that sets it apart from other sports. even with other more “artsy” sports like gymnastics (not to say that isn’t tough, i think that is very difficult as well), you get to pause in a floor routine, show that you are breathing hard, and don’t have to pay attention to your facial expression. in dance, none of that is allowed. also, it takes a lot of strength and concentration to do what a dancer does. it combines memorization and muscle. it takes a lot of energy. we look beautiful on stage, but that doesn’t mean it is easy. people often underestimate the amount of work that goes into it. just thought i would add dance to this list because no one has said it yet.

I think it all depends on how hard you try at each sport. I also did swimming, but not extremely competitive. But for cross-country, I was logging 70 miles a week. I ended up with 3 micro-fractures on my left foot and severe shin splints on my right leg. It was painful as heck to push your body to run 3 miles in 16 minutes, imagine trying to run w/ micro-fractures and shin splints.
However, I don’t know how hard it is to swim extremely competitively. I bet Michael Phelp’s training was a heck lot harder than mine, but then his also won 8 gold medals in Beijing and I can’t even make All-American.

I don’t believe dance is a sport, just like cheerleading isn’t. Some will argue that if you are competing it is a sport. I don’t think that’s the case. Yes, it takes hard work and lots of practice to dance, but in the end it is a performing art. Musicians practice rigorously and compete as well, does that make music a sport? No, it is a performing art just like dance.

haha honorstudent. if you have ever danced, you would know it should be included as a sport. it is an art as well though, i will give you that.

I play clarinet. It’s a pretty grueling sport as well.

ThisCouldBeHeavn- Hahah, my point exactly! I should probably start bandaging up my fingers from all my hard core violin playing.

Pimpin

[10 char]

a change in subject: who thinks the funnest sport is Ultimate frisbee???

Conceited much? Lol jk :)

@jamesford: lol. yeah that sounds conceited. excuse my bad wording, it’s 2 AM. i think you guys know what i meant haha.

anyways, think of dance as an art or whatever. i really don’t care. i don’t have time to debate it.

HOCKEY

you try playing a sport on ice

There’s no ice in Los Angeles, so I can see how playing Hockey would be difficult.
