Hardest Sport?

This thread is embarassing. I’m too tired to go through it tonight. Might try to tackle it tomorrow but I have a feeling it would be futile. You guys are beyond all hope.

Based on the sports I’ve done on a fairly high level:

XC - Anyone can learn. ANYONE. takes willpower though, like any other sport. Some people have to struggle more than others.
Soccer - requires a quick mind and alot of confidence.
horsebackriding - The hardest. not everyone can learn. Physically and mentally challanging, requires blood sweat and tears. Perfection is required and it’s very time consuming.

I’m talking about sports at a somewhat high level, national >.

I disagree. Most 16 year olds have experience in these sports and would not look completely foolish (unless we’re talking about uncoordinated CC kids here).

Your point about BAs speaks for itself; hitters are expected to fail. Yes it’s still hard to get a hit (and obviously one still needs to hit consistently in order to have a .3xx BA) but you can’t say hitting is hard because BAs are low when that’s the expectation.

As for pitching, that’s not all that different from XC. It takes years to have a pitch mastered, whereas in XC it takes years of running every day + talent to get to the elite level. Running a race is also a beating–on every muscle–and so races are not scheduled within a few days of each other. In fact, the ideal amount of races is far less than the number on the typical HS schedule and most elites who aren’t on great teams only race a few times before Nationals.

Yeah but that’s just your arm. In cross country or gymnastics or wrestling it’s your whole body.

xc is certainly the most physically demanding sport hands down

where else would you look at the competition in admiration as they finish a race covered in vomit and pee because they pushed themselves so hard

you literally have to force yourself to constantly break all your physical and mental boundaries - daily

but for this to apply you really have to take it seriously ie; my coach runs ultras and firmly believes that xc is a contact sport … an ideology i’ve somewhat adopted as my school’s course is dense woods w/ thin trails

Take 20 twenty year old top athletes who have never played baseball in their life. Give them a week to train and then have them face any average High School Baseball team in the country. They will get MURDERED. Matter of fact, I highly doubt the game would ever end.

Take these same athletes and let them play any other sport. Football, basketball, soccer, tennis, etc. They still would probably lose but it would be somewhat competitive. The baseball game would be an embarrassment.

And be quite with the cross country stuff. READING IS FUNDAMENTAL. We are talking about SPORTS here. Get that stuff out of here.

^Have them do gymnastics. They would be massacred. They’d be too old to learn it anyway at 20 years old by then most top gymnasts are already retired because it destroys your body. So let’s pretend they were 16 around the average gymnast’s age you could give them a year and they would still get destroyed.

BOXING = intense workouts + XC distance runs every day (5-10 mi.) + hours of jump roping + bag workouts + broken, raw, shredded knuckles + bruises, cuts, broken bones, etc. + footwork + technique + sprint workouts + BEING PUNCHED IN THE FACE REPEATEDLY + broken jaws (that one’s killer) + repeated 2 minute rounds of constant punching, weaving, dodging, parrying, trying to work your combos, etc.

Gymnastics isn’t even a sport. There are judges. LOL we are talking about sports here people.

As in sports with professional sports leagues. Soccer, baseball, basketball, golf, tennis, hockey, football, rugby, boxing, cricket, and cycling.

Boxing is certainly very physically demanding. I’m a huge boxing fan. However, there is almost no skill. It is all athleticism. What is hard about this concept?

You will never see an out of shape boxer. There are plenty of fat slob baseball players. Baseball, by far, involves the most skill. Please stop denying it people.

How the hell is gymnastics not a sport. It has more athleticism and skill than all of the other sports. The NCAA says gymnastics is a sport. And the judges should make it even more of a sport. You’re being scored by how perfectly you do things.

No offense to gymnastics like you. It is a great activity. But it’s similar to most Olympic sports in that nobody really cares about it, you aren’t making a living off of it, and it’s judged. It’s like dancing basically. Is that a sport?

Plus, a bunch of terrible sports are in the NCAA because of the travesty that is Title IX. Doesn’t mean it is something I would consider a real sport. Heck, rifle and rowing are NCAA sports. LOL

And, I can guarantee you any NBA player is 10x more athletic than the best gymnast of all time. Shawn Johnson is a fat midget. I am 5x more athletic than her. Your argument is futile.

How many top athletes have never played baseball before in their life?

Many people throughout the world have never played baseball. I bet the entire Egyptian national soccer team has never played baseball.

I highly doubt you have as much upper body strength (in proportion) as Shawn Johnson, let alone 5x.

I’m not even a gymnast but I see the crazy **** that they do and a lot of it is like impossible. Can you see how crazy strong you have to be to do this?
Ok, he is strong for his weight. Terrific. Maybe he should try playing a sport. Oh wait, he’d suck at every real sport cause he’s like 110.

Actually he weighs 125 pounds but anyways there is NO ONE from any other sport that could do what he does.

Rugby
Jai Alai
Aussie Rules Football
Hockey
