Hardest Sport?

Fencing!

10char

XC, Water Polo and Gymnastics seem the hardest to me.

You can also throw in ping pong (I’m serious, to play it as a serious sport you need strong legs, but it’s mostly about hours and hours of training…). Of course, it’s not exactly a high school sport or nearly as hard as the 3 that I’ve listed, so I’ll shut up now. ;)

Edit:

Yea, Rugby and Jai Alai are hard too

Hatersunite, you weren’t joking when you said you were trying to come off as an *******, were you?

“You can also throw in ping pong (I’m serious, to play it as a serious sport you need strong legs, but it’s mostly about hours and hours of training…). Of course, it’s not exactly a high school sport or nearly as hard as the 3 that I’ve listed, so I’ll shut up now.”

Tennis is harder then ping pong. L0L. And I don’t think tennis is as strenuous as gymnastics or baseball. I would have never thought baseball was hard, but I guess so. Question though: What about those people stand out in the field? Is that really that hard? I don’t see it. I really don’t see baseball as being hard, but I haven’t played it besides in gym class.

Is it hard to stand out in the field? No. Is it hard to make the plays and throws necessary, which require excellent athleticism? Yes.

Cross country/long distance track-Doesn’t get much harder than this, the whole damn thing is just a matter of overcoming pain.

Rugby-Combines sprinting with non-stop movement…it is like HIIT but over a very long time. And needs some serious strength.

When it comes to technique and mental prowess, golf is probably it. I am definitely amazed by what they can do; however, its a pathetical sport when it comes to requiring athleticism.

“Have them do gymnastics.”

put them on a horse…I’d love to see them try to messure up even to a 13 year old doing low level ( <2nd level).

hands down to middle distance track: 800m / 1600m
pain is the name of the game

Ya that is the hardest out of all the sports that I have tried. And I am not even good at it!

I guess I’ll offer my opinions on the sports I’ve competed in

This is an absolute joke. Baseball is one of the least strenuous sports. Gymnastics you can make that argument, but baseball isn’t tough at all. All it requires is decent reactions. Look at somebody like Prince Fielder who is an all-star and tell me baseball is more strenuous than tennis. Baseball is mostly standing/sitting around. Watch tennis (yes I’m biased) on tv or at the high junior levels and the level of athleticism is outstanding. Tennis requires endurance- matches frequently go three hours - hand-eye coordination and technical skill to hit the ball, and quickness and footwork to play the points. I’ve been in gym classes with football stars who were in good shape, and they were sweating buckets and not even playing correctly.
Gymnastics - very grueling. I can’t believe some of the comments against gymnastics on this forum. The sheer strength and coordination required for the sport is incredible.
Soccer is what you make of it. If you go after everything hard, particularly at midfield, you need to be in great shape. Lotssss of running and the added difficulty of kicking, dribbling, etc.
Track/XC/marathons/all running - all very difficult. Not as much technical skill but it’s hard to play down when your lungs are busting after 10 miles.
Ping-pong - not really tough, but fun

Ha ha now that takes a real athlete lol

Tennis is a fairly unique sport that combines the need for technique, mental toughness (you are alone after all), and athleticism into one package, making it one of the toughest sports to be very good in as well. Few other sports combine so many factors together.

^Agreed, tennis requires great athleticism, mental toughness for 3 hours straight, and picking your spots is very difficult. Not many people do possess the ability to hit the ball low, hard, & away from an opponet & can clear the net at the same time.

Doubles tennis is more because I can play with more friends  Singles is great competitively, but doubles is more fun recreationally. Anybody agree?

ping pong!

Baseball is incredibly tough. It’s not constant motion, but when you need to move, you need to move very quickly. Prince Fielder? Yeah, he’s huge, but he’s an incredibly good defensive player…

It’s easy to sit behind a computer screen and say XC sucks, gymnastics is a joke, boxing takes no skill, etc. How many of these sports have you really tried? There is a lot of skill involved in boxing, such as learning different combos, learning the proper jab/hook/right technique, parrying blows, protecting your face/body effectively, targeting the right spots to hit on your opponent, proper stance and footwork, dodging blows, clinching, using the ropes…

Baseball is nothing but hand-eye coordination. It’s comparable to bowling and darts. See what I did? I descended to your level of discussion.

To the tennis responses - I forgot to include the mental toughness and emotional toughness along with physicality. It is certainly unique in that respect. The other thing is even if you’re a good athlete, without practice it’s very tough to do well in tennis. You need a lot of hours to make yourself competitive. Big Dreamer - I agree that doubles is more fun. If I’m messing around with friends I’d rather play doubles. I like singles for competing, but doubles is much more relaxed, you can joke, etc. while singles is intense.

I stand by my point that baseball is one of the least strenuous sports. Doesn’t take much energy to play. Perhaps tough was poor word choice on my part. It is tough to hit the ball, and you do need to react on defense. But it’s not a very physical sport to play, and I don’t think it’s the most difficult to play by a long stretch.

Are there no other fencers here? ._.

It’s tough. But less physically and more mentally. There is no way to win fencing with brute strength. It takes something else.

To play, or to play well?

When the gym teachers says you’re running the mile for gym… Everyone moans
When the gym teacher says you’re playing soccer… Everyone is happy

I think xc is the hardest sport
I think wrestling, gymnastics and golf all require something that not everyone has though

For everyone that says xc or track is easy… Yea maybe running a 17:50 5k or a 4:55 mile is easy… But that’s not… really good… It’s above average… But it’s not anything special… Unless you’re talking about your middle school times.

I respect your opinions but you don’t downgrade the work people put in their sport and call it east… No matter what it is. That’s what in my opinion separates wannabe high school athletes from college athletes. College athletes and the better high school ones realize that every sport requires work

This doesn’t apply for cheerleading

track. We had a practice once where we had to sprint 1600m with only a 30 sec recovery time.It was horrible and this is in minnesota and during the time it was raining, windy, and snow was still outside. so horrible!!!
