Harry and Meghan are having a baby!

How exciting!

Certainly this was expected, given that she’s 37. And exciting only if you’re English or an Anglophile, I imagine. I do feel bad for Meghan given the example of her sister-in-law, who waltzed out of the hospital the day after giving birth to each child, looking in each case picture perfect and better than the rest of us do on our best days. That’s a hard act to follow!

I’m sure Meghan will be able to look just as fabulous as Kate when she leaves the hospital.

However, isn’t it in poor taste to announce your own big news at a family member’s wedding? Poor Eugenie didn’t get the spotlight for long. We finally all noticed how beautiful she is!

I agree it seems in poor taste For them to have announced it at the reception. Possibly others were guessing, so they just told the truth. All sorts of different scenarios could have played out causing them to tell their good news.

I guess I’ve always enjoyed watching and reading all things royal.

It’s not unexpected given Meghan’s age and the fact that the couple made it pretty clear that they planned to start a family right away. I wish them well.

Agree that the announcement should not be made on someone else’s big day.

So when do we start the baby name thread?

When you are not drinking at a reception then it is kind of obvious.

And apparently 2 of the countries they are visiting on their current travels have a zika risk, so they needed medical clearance. Its possible someone outside if the 2 of them knew of her contact and/or visit with her doctor for clearance.

She wore a big coat to the wedding and held a notebook in front of her belly on arrival in Australia. Is she already showing a bump at 12 weeks? I’ll take a wild guess that it’s twins (with help from fertility drugs given her age). Wonder what the London bookies’ odds are for that.

Perhaps ore likely she is further along (4 mos?) and due in March? They said spring, but no report yet of when.

I don’t think it’s at all surprising that they told the family at Eugenie’s wedding. It isn’t as though they all get together for dinner every Sunday, and they probably wanted everyone to hear the news at the same time, and before the speculation circulating in London broke in the tabloids. Having 5 Ds, I can’t imagine any of them being upset at this. I also can’t imagine feeling badly for Meghan having to follow Kate. Meghan is an exquisitely beautiful woman and I’m sure she will also look beautiful after giving birth.

To be clear, the announcement came today, 3 days after the wedding. She/they obviously told people in advance, perhaps even at the reception, but I doubt they clicked a fork on the champagne flute and said, “We have an announcement.” Given that the tabloids have been speculating the last couple of weeks based on some of her recent outfits, it’s not surprising that she/they came clean.

The Palace typically does not release the due date.

I thought she “looked pregnant” in the wedding photos, was waiting for the announcement.

@TatinG, my DIL got pregnant at 36, 5 months after their wedding, the old-fashined way. She turns 37 the week after the baby is due (November 13). I’m not surprised they started right away, especially if they want more than one child. but I don’t think one needs to assume fertility issues were involved. They indicated a desire to have a family from the very beginning and, as I would be for anyone, I’m very happy that it seems like things have moved along according to their plan. Now, I did notice the Zika conversation…my DIL refused to go to any location that had a Zika warning once she knew she was pregnant. I do wonder how prevalent it is in the locations they are visiting or whether her outdoor activities will be curtailed when there.

After the way that Kate suffered with hyperemesis in all of her pregnancies (I had it in one of mine, so I know how awful it is), Kate deserved to leave the hospital looking great. The Cambridge children are adorable and I think that the Sussex offspring will be as well. As for sharing the news at the wedding, I have read that Harry and Eugenie are very close so it might be that she already knew and, after all, it was the one time in the near future where just about every family member was present to be told personally. I think that if Megan had worn a tight outfit to draw attention, it would have been tacky but she dressed very tastefully for the wedding.

@skieurope - many people don’t release a due date, but “spring” could mean March or May (and posters here are speculating about how pregnant she may be, or if she is pregnant with twins, so was simply discussing that she could be further along than some are hypothesizing).

One article I read said 12 weeks pregnant. So a mid March due date.

Is that source reliable, @TatinG ?

I ended up telling people about my first pregnancy about 2 months before planned. I was at a party, not drinking, and had morning sickness - and people figured it out fairly quickly. I told two people, swore them to secrecy, and they in turn told our entire table who started telling others. By the end of the night, everyone knew. Sometimes you don’t get control over when people figure things out.

@TatinG

If she’s currently 12 weeks, the due date would be end of April, not mid-March.

Ha! Yes. I only counted eight fingers. Too early and not enough coffee.
