@coralbrook - I read that she may be planning / considering a home birth. Until now, Megan has courted the world media and played for the cameras with every nauseating cradle of the ‘baby bump’ Honestly, I like the way the Royal Family has conducted itself to the world in my lifetime; yes, even the warts and cringeworthy moments, it’s humanized them for the rest of us.
Good for them. They should be able to make the decision as to how they want to celebrate the birth of their child without the surrounding hoopla.
The idea that they might choose home birth – which is far riskier than hospital birth – to avoid the media horrifies me.
I don’t know whether I’m more appalled by the idea that they might make that choice or the idea that they might feel the need to, but in either case, I hope they don’t do it.
I imagine home birth for them would not be a typical one–there will be doctors, emergency equipment, etc. Probably turn a room into something like a typical hospital birthing room ( the ones that are like regular rooms, not the OR style ones.)
I think people are reading too much into this. My interpretation is that there will be no photo op hours after giving birth;they will avail themselves to photo op in due course. I would fully expect that there will be a birth announcement made in the timely manner and with the same details as has been the case with recent royal births.
I’ll also point out that, despite news reports, there is no press release issued by either Buckingham Palace or Kensington Palace, so I’m not sure “official” the statement is.
News is she’s in labor! (or, labour )
It’s a boy!
Just got a notification on my phone that Harry and Meghan had a baby boy today.
A home birth too.
You know, Diana was the first “royal” to give birth in a hospital. The homebirth is very traditional. Frimley park hospital, or homebirth? That’s a no brainer.
I would imagine given her age and the delayed due date that a doctor was present in case something went wrong. At 37 she’s considered an elderly primagravida.
There would have been a mini NICU set up in there, for goodness sake. Of course there were multiple drs present.
Reports say labor was induced. Harry said she was overdue, which would explain that.
I can’t wait to see the pictures when they release them!
In the video posted on their Instagram, Harry said pictures in 2 days. Woohoo!
I think Princess Anne was the first; Diana was the first to have a hospital birth for an heir to The Throne.
Getting pedantic, but the Duchess of Gloucester gave birth at St.Mary’s 3 years before Princess Anne. And since the UK is not the world’s only monarchy, the heirs to the Spanish, Danish, and Dutch thrones were born in hospital in the 60’s and the heirs to the Swedish and Norwegian thrones were born in hospital in the 70’s.
I think we need an online petition-- to send you to Jeopardy, @skieurope! You may be the only one who could be real competition for that current over-the-top contestant.
I LOVED watching that video of Harry talking to the press. What a sweet, down to earth guy he seems to be.
My D and I predict the baby’s name will be Alexander.
