Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2

Is this first thread for the 8th HP movie?

Am I the only mom looking forward to it?

I’m so glad to see it getting good reviews. (rotton tomatoes dot com)

Are you going? We’ve got tix for 12:01am on Friday. Can’t wait.

The HP phenom has been great for my kids. At nearly 17 and 19, they’ve really grown up with the main characters. Each of us has read the books at least twice. And, of course, seen the movies more than that.

I’m really looking forward to the last movie. :)

Me too! Don’t have tix yet, but I hope to go with my adult kids very soon!!

I can’t wait!

My parents were in England when the first book came out over there. They brought a copy back for my son, who turns 19 on Thursday. My two oldest are like DB’s kids - grew up with the series. I’m sure the books were one reason they loved to read so much.

I don’t even think I read the last book, but am thinking of going to the movie, we went to see pt 1 with our now 21 yr old D, who grew up with the movies/books & they are a big part of her life. ( Harry Potter & the Sorcerers Stone was the first non-picture book she read)
She & her friends would make a special midnight excursion to the bookstores & the movies were just as big a part of her childhood/teen years.

She is currently studying abroad & confessed that she seriously considered not going because she would miss the premiere!
( she said it just wouldn’t be the same seeing it without her friends/abroad)

Well, there’s this thread- http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/parent-cafe/1175082-anyone-else-rereading-harry-potter-books-prep-movie.html</a> Perhaps a moderator could merge the two.

I’d like to go, but am not sure who to go with. Maybe my older son. Younger son is going to the midnight showing with friends.

I cant’ wait for the movie, and I am rereading the last book now.( Will have to check out the other thread. ) S2 has his ticket for the midnight show. He is going to a 9 pm showing of the first part and then the 2nd at midnight. They also had a special for $45 to see the whole series over 4 nights! He will then go with me on Saturday.
S2 truly feels like his childhood is ending. He read the first 3 books the summer going into 3rd grade, he will be 20 in December and said that it is only fitting that it ends during his last year as a teenager! Makes me a little weepy thinking about it.

I’m definitely going to read the book before seeing the movie. I can’t wait!

This has been so hard. Everyone, at all ages, in our family loves them, and they’re a big talking point whenever either the newest book or the newest movie came out.

EXCEPT for H. He didn’t want to read the books, but he has seen all the movies. It’s so frustrating to talk to everyone about the storyline, all the while trying to not spill the beans on the parts that haven’t come out in the movies yet. We finally just had to tell him to either read the books, or leave the room.

When Son’s bff asked what happens in the last movie we told him Harry dies. He still doesn’t believe us. He should have read the book.

Got the kids tix for 12:01am 3D showing next Friday morning. She doesn’t work on Friday and he will skip swim practice, as he’s heading to Philmont Sunday morning, so his season is over. H & I will be asleep and maybe see it over the weekend, although he’s also heading to Philmont on Sunday.

I wouldn’t get them IMAX 3D, as the only IMAX theater near us gets sketchy after 11pm.

It’s bittersweet and I guess fitting that this last movie comes out as D just graduated from college. Brings back the memories of anticipating each book; she had finished most of them within a day or two.

H and I have listened to all of the books on CD. The reader, Jim Dale, is fantastic, and anyone who wants more after seeing the movies could consider listening to them.

I’m no longer into crowds at the movies, so plan to see Part II in 3D once they die down. Will look forward to reviews on CC!

We have our tickets for the midnight release! We read the first book in 1999 along with our 21 year old son and his 19 year old brother. They were in 3rd and 4th grade at the time. My oldest went as HP for Halloween that year and no one knew who he was except the boy who went as Dumbledore (his mom was a librarian). We bought book 2 and 3 that year as Christmas presents for the boys. I than began reading the series to my daughter who was 4. I read each book to her through book 5 and than she took over reading them herself. Her brothers frequently would make their way into her room when they discovered I was reading to her. And many a car trip was passed with me reading aloud the books to all of them. Every time I finish book 7, I am sad that it’s over and I imagine finishing the last movie will sad as well. The series has been such a part of our lives for the last 12 years or so.

How I wish I can have one of you wonderful moms as a parent----All of my obsession with Harry Potter over all these years seemed to have zero effect on my parents’ lack of enthusiasm for the series!

I know right? So exciting!

DS was a major “non-reader” until the HP books came along. He still doesn’t devour fiction, but that series marked a turning point for him. I also loved the series and have reread all of them in anticipation of the final film. I may even watch all of the films this summer, as a way to wrap up the series in my mind. I think it was a series that did a wonderful job of growing with the reader, taking on adult themes.

I probably won’t be there on opening night, but will go the first week. I still don’t know if I will do the 3D. Does anyone else have a problem with D glasses and regular glasses?

D1 is soooo sad that it’s ending. Of course, she is also happily crowing that she’s getting to see it 6 hours before everyone else because she’s going to the midnight showing in ENGLAND! And she’s staying in Oxford and is happily soaking in the very Hogwart-y atmosphere (she’s there for a study abroad program; good timing, no?)

DH & D2 are going to see it during daylight hours as of right now; the midnight showing has lost a little lustre. As for me, I rarely go to the movies, so I’ll wait for it to come out on DVD.

As D was lamenting the “end of an era” for her generation, I explained to her that people my age didn’t have anything close to that, and that she and her sis had been part of something very special.

RobD, I felt that way after the first Star Wars trilogy ended. But after all the additional movies, books and series, it has never ended!

My kid is greatly disappointed that she can’t go to the opening show. She is at a program with a midnight curfew.

RobD: Your D is sooo lucky!! She timed her study abroad perfect!

^^^LOL! Yes, and she knows it  She also was telling us that it seems more civilized to go to the movies in the UK; they have reserved seating so you don’t have to line up for hours to get into the midnight showing. They were also asked if they’d like the “luxury seating;” when they asked what that was they were told that they’d be seated in sofas. So they said “yes please!”

Girls who grew up with Harry Potter may also have read the Sisterhood of the traveling pants novels, I noticed there was a new one that was published in June.

HP has been a huge part of our lives. I worked for Scholastic when we published book #1 and we were all encouraged to read in advance… so I read outloud with my girls and we were all immediately hooked (except for DH, who has seen the movies but not much interest in reading beyond book 1 & 2). Full disclosure- I won company HP trivia contest after book 3 or 4 was published and have a a copy of book #4 autographed by JK Rowling herself… so although all of us are in different cities this summer and DH will be away on business trip, I will likely take myself to see the movie-will try to reread book 7 this week. I cannot even begin to count how many times these books have been read in our house. We also love the Jim Dale audio- although don’t have all of them.
