Bissou, most of the programs are small, that should not deter your daughter, but she should decide if she wants to go with a smaller program or try for a larger one. That is a huge question.

My D is fairly flexible. She wants a BFA on either East or West coasts. Small/large doesn’t matter to her.

D is at Hartt and loves the program, the teachers, is getting exactly what she had hoped for. There are certainly some schools that are harder to get into, and some that are easier, but what really matters is the fit. Each class at Hartt functions as an ensemble, and will work closely together (they do all their productions together) for all 4 years. There is guaranteed casting, beginning sophomore year, and the rehearsal/performance process, working together with a professional director, is a big part of the training there. Also they study drama from the Greeks to modern day, which makes a solid foundation to work from. Junior year is almost all classical, especially Shakespeare.

Those are some of the things that make Hartt what it is, and every school has its own particular things-- the more you and your D can learn about each school’s curriculum and focus, the better able she’ll be to make her decision.

This sounds like someplace my D would really thrive in. Small classes, a tight ensemble. Do they offer a semester or year abroad?
