Well, the story gets worse: The airline canceled her flight at the connecting airport and told her that the next flight is not until tomorrow!!! Because the cancellation is due to weather, the airline does not pay for overnight accommodations. They did, however, give her a “distressed passenger” piece of paper, which supposedly allows her a discounted rate at an airport hotel. To make a long story short, she is now in a hotel room and will not get to Boston until tomorrow afternoon. The joy of flying!

Oh no! did she happen to know anyone on her connecting flight? my son knew about 5 people on his flight from California to Boston.

It’s probably more stressful for us (the parents) than the young people. At least she’s dry and sleeping in a hotel room and not out in dangerous weather. I’ll pray for good weather tomorrow.

MSMDAD,
D’s flight was delayed for 3hrs yesterday in Dallas. She arrived at H around 8:40pm.

We drove home from Harvard last night and the weather was pretty bad. I don’t know that I’d ever seen such long lightening bolts flash across the sky! Better to be safe than to be flying in that weather.

msmdad,

I’m hoping your dtr made it back to Harvard safely this morning. Keep us posted.

Hi guitars101

She made it back to H this afternoon, without her luggage! She is going back to the airport this evening to go get her luggage. Apparently the airline that she took does not deliver lost luggage. I find this strange…but I suspect that she was not assertive with the airline staff that she dealt with.

I learned something that I want to share with H parents: Apparently, some hotels require that guests be at least 21 years old. When I called a hotel close to the airport where she was stranded to describe the situation (that she was stranded and that the airline was not footing the bill because it was a weather related delay), the person I spoke to told me that guests had to be at least 21. I then called DD and told her NOT to show her drivers license as ID when she checked in (she is under 21). I asked her if she had her H ID, which she did, and that is what she used as ID to check-in to the hotel.

Did anyone else breath a sigh of relieve that it’s over but also relive that wonderful moment when your kid opened their email one year ago today that said…“the admissions committee would like to offer you a spot in the Harvard class of 2012”??

Yes, it’s been on my mind all day.

Me too. Today, D2 was rejected by Harvard, but in at Yale! So now I will have one at each.

Bay - Congratulations! That may be the coolest situation of all! And you get the parent experience at both!

Bay - Congratulations! And each kid gets her own unique experience!

Thank you! Yes, I think it will work out for the best. We are still in that “surreal” phase, where it hasn’t sunk in fully yet!

Bay,

Nice! enjoy it, that’s very cool.

Ahhh, I remember 1 year ago today sitting on CC thinking about all the decisions and how happy my son was. He’s very happy that he chose Harvard.

Bay Congratulations, thats great news and like twinmom said unique experience!

News at our house, son got accepted to Harvard but rejected from Yale! Freshman daughter really wants him to join her. He got into MIT and wants to go to Candidate Preview Weekend before making his choice…Its nice to have choices, I feel so bad reading some of the posts from these incredibly qualified kids who have been receiving rejection notices today.

We are so excited over the news at our house!!! Daughter got accepted at Harvard!!! Her first choice!!! We are looking forward to the coming weeks, and especially travelling back to Cambridge to get a look at her school!!! That is so nice to say. It is surreal. This morning, first thing, I took a look at the email just to make sure she made it, that I was not dreaming. It is real, alright!!! Congrats to all who made it, and I too, feel bad about the wonderful qualified kids who did not.

Catherine’s Mom, Welcome and congratualtions! My daughter is currently a freshman at Harvard this year and her experience couldn’t have been better. Son is accepted for this year, we will see, we feel like lightning has struck our house twice (or the lottery!).
This Parent forum has been a great reference for me, lots of parents with lots of good advice and sound wisdom,(gadad, Bay, guitars101, twinmom and courer to name a few). Very supportive as well! Feel free to ask any questions you have and I am sure someone will have an answer for you!!! Again, Congratulations!

Catherine’s Mom - Congratulations and welcome! :)

Similar result here. D2 waitlisted by Harvard and rejected by Yale but accepted by Dartmouth. So unless a waitlist miracle occurs, I’ll have to put away my crimson t-shirts and see how I look in kelly green. But the girl herself is happy, so it’s all good.
