Harvard SCEA Class of 2020 Applicant Thread

@Soheils very smart.

On another note, does anyone know how to reformat a MacBook?

I’m over here watching snl skits and dying. I suggest anyone who is stressed do the same.

BTW, How were your interviews?

@schroscat Why do you want to reformat a MacBook?

Didn’t have one :confused:

@jinxx Mine is almost four years old, and it has slowed down significantly. I’m about to back it up entirely on an external hard drive, and I thought reinstalling the OS would bring it back to optimal function.

Interview: weird, but good.

@goldenmaster I know a Columbia University alumni interviewer, and he shared some of his experiences that really put things into perspective. He said that he had interviewed around 250 students and only 1 was accepted from that 250. He did not recommend that girl that was accepted… in fact, he told the admissions committee that she would not be a good fit for the college. So, don’t worry about it. It does not hold much weight if any at all.

@Sajidur4 @schroscat what do you mean? BTW I really love teaching English to kids. You can’t believe it before you experience it. It is very hard, but the satisfaction you can get is unparalleled. I actually started at 1.5$/hour, which I have not even received yet from my first employer.

Interview: short but great. I made him laugh a couple times and I’m just good with interviews in general. He never asked me why Harvard or anything, which was strange, but he did seem a little time crunched because it was at his office (doctor). Afterwards he told his colleague (a friends of my dad) that I was such an amazing applicant. It made me happy :slight_smile: because even if I don’t get in, at least someone thinks I’m great :smiley:

@Soheils haha, I meant that it is a good idea to use Harvard for a raise xD

And, damn… 1.5$ an hour. In America, people would think you were insane for working for that little. But, of course there is the difference in standard of living

interview : They were very nice, we mainly talked about my interests. I made them laugh, and it was nice. it was about 45-60 minutes. They didn’t really ask why Harvard. At first, I felt that the the interview was great, but now I am thinking that it wasn’t that good. I don’t know. If I get in, I will definitely ask my interviewers about it.

@sajidur4
Yeah, But that is if I get accepted…
BTW, In Iran, some people thought I was crazy for working for that little. But I loved every second of it, and it was a start, so yeah it was worth it.
P.S : if we consider purchasing power parity, it would be around 4$/hour in america.

My interview was great, too.We talked about my interests and other things like politics, economics, current events, history, languages, etc. It was around 2 hours long. I really enjoyed it

@Soheils what do you want to major (concentrate :smiley: )in?

@Sajidur4 Engineering or Science, probably BioMed Eng, Chem Eng or Chemistry. But who knows, I may become a “wolf of Wall Street” in 10 years, or go into Law, Premed or Pharma or maybe even something entirely different. This ability to explore is what I love about the American system.

@Soheils oh man, couldn’t have said it better. I love the American system, too. I have cousins back in Bangladesh who had to choose a college major in 8th grade! 8TH GRADE! How does a 12/13 year old decide his life passion? And, if they decide to switch in the middle, they have to retake the previous courses they missed…horrible system

If you guys are accepted, what major(s)/minor(s) will you pursue?

@TLCO99 I’ll likely pursue a concentration in government with a secondary in global health. But I won’t decide until sophomore year!
