Harvard SCEA Class of 2020 Applicant Thread

This asking of quarter grades really makes me nervous… It seems like they’re requesting to kids who have insane schedules/ less than stellar previous grades. I fit in both categories, and I’ve done exceptionally well this quarter and now I’m upset that they didn’t ask for mine lol. It is what it is I guess… :frowning:

@tuty143 what cuisines do you like to go out to with your mom?

@flautamagica what are these IAs? In my area we only have APs no IB haha.

We can’t say anything yet. What do you consider less than stellar grades? I don’t know if @aharper98 or @pubkid would be comfortable sharing their grades

I like that “it is what it is”

I looked up my weekly zodiac horoscope to see what Thursday is like for me.

Guys, we all need to calm down. Like someone on last year’s thread said, if they ask for grades, they need it to support their case and that’s a good thing.

If they don’t ask for it, it means they’re confident about their case for us and the decision that they have made and need no supporting documents to substantiate.

It’s a win-win either way, unless they are 1) turned off by one’s first quarter grades or 2) one is already out in which case they know stellar first quarter grades don’t make a difference as far as their decisions go.

Just to try to put everyone at ease, which I realize is a tall order.

@QueenN22 SAME!!! I looked up my sign too

@magic125 lol it doesn’t look that good for me but Im taking it with a grain of salt

I’m trying to take my mind off things by stress-window-shopping. Anyone know of a cool obscure picture book to buy? I was looking at an encyclopedia called Codex Seraphinianus (basically a made-up world in a different language) but it was too expensive!

If I do end up deferred/rejected, I will be fine. Harvard thought someone else would fit a certain purpose and for that I can’t be upset. Despite the disappointment, Harvard owes me nothing and simply just the fact that we are within the top 10% or less of students nationwide is enough of a pat on the back

@archaeologygirl my topic was to what extent did the American eugenics movement influence that of nazi Germany? What about you?

@smollhuman casually drop a hint to your parents for Christmas. Like print a cover of the book from Barnes and Nobles or Amazon, then will causally pretend that you found it out of nowhere. After that you should just walk away while the paper is directly in their faces.

@nearea IAs are essays, they’re like 2,000 words long

They’re mini research papers

Guys I uploaded a supplemental essay on 11/28. Do you think they were able to review it?

Ok, there’s no way that a request for Q1 grades means that you’re “in” or made it to the final round. I have a 4.0 UW and I have straight A’s for my first quarter. When I asked my GC, she said no one contacted her for these. I’m a pretty strong academic student, so why wouldn’t they ask for my grades? One of TWO reasons: a)the rest of my application sucked so they knew automatically that I was rejected, irrespective of these grades OR b) my application was strong enough without the need to verify with Q1 grades and my academic record speaks for itself.

Alright guys, no more speculation. Let’s just be mature almost-adults about this…we got this.

@amburger like the optional essay? The only thing is was it good enough to change their decision. Most of times supplements just reaffirm their decision

Yeah no more speculation, our answers will be revealed in a few days

^^^^^ Everything’s already been decided, let’s not make this wait any more stressful than it has to be  and enjoy senior year like normal people
