@tuty143 That outburst just made my life
Hey! This is my first post on CC. I’m an international.
Can anyone please tell me how much time does an American usually spend in a club?
Thanks in advance.
@tuty143 They mentioned that at Cornell as well aha. UChicago kids tend to be defensive about it too
I hear Cornell’s suicide rate is pretty high. Something about gorges and bridges. I hope it’s not true…but that is what I have heard…
@tuty143 about the friends in the grade above you moving off to college, I feel you! I was also in an advanced program and had a lot of friends in the grade above me. Now I don’t feel like I have a solid group of friends that I can talk to about everything, especially college apps! so it’s crazy how much i relate to your post we should be friends in college haha
@arijits
I don’t think that there is a general number of hours that a person spends in a club. Also, people might not define “club” the same way. I don’t consider myself as having participated in a lot of clubs, but I do participate in many activities like Choir and the Plays/Musicals at my school. I think it depends. As long as you are doing something.
@arijits Welcome to CC! It all depends on the club itself. Some clubs are MUCH more labor intensive, such as Speech and Debate and Mock Trial. For example, I was at Mock for two hours today briefing a case. More “recreational” clubs oftentimes take less time. Book club is around half an hour a week.
@writingwords wow I’m glad I’m not alone in my experiences!
@Nervousa @schroscat Thank you so much!
I have been following this thread a lot lately and you guys are pretty interesting, I must say.
All the best with the admissions process!
@arijits Thank you for the kind words, haha. We’re just a couple of nerds trying to get into the nerdiest college out there! Good luck to you as well, I wish you the best!
Thanks! I’m so stressed right now Haven’t had any interview yet. :’(
@arijits Don’t fret; you will be fine! Perhaps your area did not have an alum for you to interview with. Only 5 days and 16 hours left!
@schroscat Yeah, but couldn’t they have arranged an interview over the phone or maybe even Scype? :’(
Also, 10th December is my best friend’s birthday lol Idk what’s going to happen. I’m going to cry all the time and ruin her day maybe
@arijits I’ve heard somewhere on this thread that they may conduct a Skype interview; I’m not too sure if that actually happens. Don’t assume you’re going to be deferred! Keep your hopes up…you never know!
@schroscat Thanks for boosting up my confidence!
Honestly, this weekend will go by fast. Then once it’s Monday… just three days…!
@Kyuutoryuu I have off on Tuesday, so next week is going to fly!
@tuty143 hey just wanted to say that I’ve been following this post avidly (though I’ve only made a few comments). you seem like a truly wonderful, kind person. high school is a difficult environment and it must be so difficult to have had to part ways with your friends in the grade above you, especially considering high school’s social climate. but it gets so much better. you’re on to wonderful things ahead, wonderful friendships, wonderful people, wonderful learning. remember that
@schroscat we do have rankings, but it is mainly for show. The academic index is what matters. An olympiad winner for example, may have a rank of 1000 but the highest index in the nation.
BTW, I think Skype interviews are mainly for internationals.
@tuty143 my other favorite schools are UofC, brown, Jhu, Columbia and caltech.
