Harvard University Waitlist Class of 2028

didn’t see a thread for waitlists this year, so I thought I’d make one. last few years waitlists were released around may 15th. pls reply with any updates!

thanks for starting this thread! My son was waitlisted. We’re expecting to hear on the 15th, like last year. They admitted 1937 students and waitlisted something like 1200. is that sound right?

They don’t announce waitlist numbers. But, sounds about right based on internet speculation over the years.

not to be discouraging but I heard the amonut of waitlisted students are higher. around 3000-5000. it may be higher this year too, with all the uncertainty from harvard’s contreversies they may waitlist more students. although most of this is speculation/gathered knowledge from jumping around the internet, so please take my words with a hint of salt.

I don’t see why they’d waitlist more people. Even with 1200 waitlistees, they still have a large pool to admit from and even if there’s large waitlist movement this year, Harvard wouldn’t have to worry about burning through the waitlist at all. Absolute worst case scenario is 200-400 fewer people enroll than expected, and 400 <<<< 1200.

I agee with this. 200-400 would be an extreme event for Harvard.

Ok this is good to hear actually- my bad. this make me feel better about waitlist

I’ve heard about Cornell, Barnard, and a few for Columbia and UPenn, but I haven’t heard about anyone getting off the waitlist for Harvard yet. Has there been any confirmed waitlist acceptances yet?

IIRC Harvard (and MIT) released all waitlist decisions May 15th last year. I’ve noticed that schools with large waitlists (like Cornell, CMU, and public schools) release waitlist decisions in waves whereas schools with relatively small waitlists (like Harvard and MIT) release in one wave mid-May

I haven’t heard about any for Columbia either.

Having had a child on the Harvard WL two years ago (class of 26), I can say for sure it was released in waves, not all at once. Obviously have no clue what will happen this year.

thoughts on movement today? I heard last year a few people got off may 15th

I’m really hoping Harvard will let people off on the 15th. If I’m not wrong, that is their commit date (?) so 15th seems logical. Also, it seems like no one has heard back from a Harvard waitlist just yet

I called them yesterday. The lady I spoke with did not commit to a date but said it was imminent. She also added that they are admitting only a small number off the waitlist this year since they have had a strong yield. I am hopeful we get some closure this week, fingers crossed.

sounds like they already have the admitted waitlist students list already formalized!

Their commit date is May 1st.

Son received call from admissions earlier this evening. He has been accepted off the waitlist. Portal will update tomorrow.

Congrats! Has anyone looked at their portal to see if anything looks different? I’m not super invested but would love to know when the door is closed!

Congratulations apparently for you a wait list wasn’t a rejection!!! What are the choices?
