I agree with Brodie: I think that they have already made the calls to the small number of acceptees for 2015 and would take the next step and make z-list offers after that. I hope that I am wrong, though. ;)

what does z-list entail? Do they expect you to take the year off or do they want you to go to another school for an year and allow those credits to be added when you join next year?

^I’m pretty sure that z-list means a mandatory gap year and no enrollment anywhere else

No, I’m from the East Coast (Boston, actually) - so not international.

Chilaxin is right – z-list definitely means a mandatory gap year, during which you can do whatever you want (even nothing, presumably) as long as you are not enrolled for credit in a degree-earning program at another college.

BTW, my understanding is that they haven’t yet made the offers to the 10-20 waitlisted students for a spot in the class of 2015. The z-listed kids tend to be those that the college does not want to lose but cannot accommodate in the incoming class for whatever reason. A lot of it has to do with class makeup and balance. The 10-20 waitlisted students who will make the cut most likely will fill some kind of void left by those who declined admission after they were accepted RD.

Again, just my understanding and not based on first-hand knowledge. I hope this helps and I especially hope that everyone gets a decision soon!

^^ That would make sense except for Cypriot’s acceptance…but we will see, I guess. I’m happy for you, mybichon, you seem really nice. Are you definitely going?

Thank you for your kind words, francisv. Yes, I am definitely going, but not until September 2012. I would never, ever, have considered a gap year, but now that it’s been presented to me, I can’t imagine NOT doing it. After 16 years of school, I am looking forward to making choices and decisions that are 100% my own. Even if I am offered a place in this year’s class between now and September, I would absolutely, positively turn it down and happily give the spot to another waitlist hopeful.

You’re welcome. That makes a lot of sense. It’s hard not to feel burnt out after all we’ve accomplished to make it this far. Do you know yet how you’re going to spend your unexpected gap year? :)

Mybichon, my DS took a gap year and it has been the best decision he has made. He feels excited to start in the fall and is sorry for his friends who “had” (as he puts it) to go to college immediately.

Figure out what you want to do-- set a plan, set a budget and have a terrific experience whther it is in your hometown or traveling.

BTW-- you MUST You Tube “Gap Yah” it has gone viral in Britain.

I called today, and they said that the bulk of the 10-15 acceptances would go out tomorrow. Cypriot must be a special case.

I called today too (asking if it was too late to send a letter/update through email, because they apparently had not received mine in the mail), and they said all the letters would be mailed out tomorrow.

Not sure about the calls that others are receiving. Good luck to everyone. I seem to have destroyed my chances.

^all the letters? as in ALL? does that mean they already called all of the accepted…?

letters or emails?..or both?
i’m on the waitlist…keeping my fingers crossed, but i think cornell is pretty sweet if not, no? :D

So, it seems tomorrow is the day.
I find myself really hoping that it will be people on this board who get accepted…of course, I want it most for myself, but I think you all deserve it so much as well. I also really hope they got my letter. ![]()
Good luck to all!!

Yes, the chances are slim. But take into consideration that, at this point, you were qualified to attend Harvard, probably just as much as most of the other waitlistees. That means that you have more or less the same shot as everyone else; they wouldn’t have waitlisted you if you didn’t. Additionally, 10 or 15 kids isn’t really enough to balance a demographic, so you may not be excluded just because there are a bunch of kids of your race, interest, or geographic location already int he Class of 2015. You will undoubtedly add to the community at whichever school you attend. It’s easy to forget that with all this uncertainty.

I’m signing off until at least tomorrow evening. Hopefully, I will be bringing positive news, and I keep imagining getting that magical call. Just keep things in perspective and you’ll be fine.

I got some major awards at the recent Intel ISEF, and unfortunately, I only had time to send them over the weekend, since the awards ceremony was on Friday, at about 4 PM EST. Do you think H took it into consideration?

Good luck everyone!

hey CC!

Im on the waitlist for Harvard adn Im SUPAH nervous for tomorrow. I think im gonna cry if they call me… Im so scared… 10-15/like at least 1000? 1%??? thats even worse than that abu dhabi thing NYU has going on… a girl from my school got in there… she’s super smart (and super hot)

so what I want to know, is which possibility is MORE likely??

I got into stanford (w00t w00t!, fear the tree!) and when i was at the admit weekend i met this BABE. she was super good looking and really smart toooo… she got a likely letter from u chicago and stuff. (i didn’t get a likely letter from chicago, but we both got $10000 from them) AND shes uruguayan and im nicaraguan so we’re pretty much perfect for each other. we are kinda friends after the admit weekend.

So is it more likely that i have a serious relationship with this gal at stanford (assuming i go there) or is it more likely that I get into hahvahd?!?!? (harvard’s PRETTY MUCH been by dream school since like 4th grade, thats when my brotha went there.)

thx for the help guys!

Non-waitlister stepping in here:
@ThirstyMonkey: it may be a good idea to think of romance after the magical call ![]()
Anyways, good luck all.

haha lmao @thirstymonkey. I called the office though and apparently the “committee is in session” currently, so they’re still deciding. The lady told me that I can expect to hear back most likely by the end of the week

^redguard when did you call? o:

EDIT: Yay this is my 777th post, and 7 is one of my favourite numbers…hmmm it’s make-a-wish time and I know what I’m wishing for~! Dx sigh.
