Harvard Waitlist 2015 **discuss here**

Princeton but Harvard is his dream! I would think we would have to hear something final this week, though I keep saying that every week…

Hello fellow H Waitlisters - I’m curious if anyone else is in my position. I haven’t yet received word from Harvard on whether they will take me or not. Is this a good sign? Bad sign? What do you guys think?

^^ Well if Harvard doesn’t work out, Princeton is incredible enough haha.

^ Like myself and a few others on this thread, you’re probably on the extended waitlist. This means you survived the first wave of rejections, and it’s still possible (though dismally unlikely) for you to be accepted.

Lol, Londongentleman, it really is unlikely. I saw something on another website where someone said they were rejected from the waitlist LAST Tuesday. Don’t know if it’s true. If it is, we’re double waitlisted!

Just received rejection. Good luck you guys.

just got rejected, can’t say I’m too bummed because UVA will be fantastic!

LondonGentleman - I’m curious though if you think the fact that I’m a legacy changes anything. Do you think they are just holding out on me to be polite. Or might they Z-list me?

No, I’m a legacy as well and just got rejected today. I think the most likely case is a z-list, rather than an acceptance simply because of how few spots there are

What did the rejection letter say? I must be on the extended extended waitlist

Just got my rejection, too.

The letter said…

To those of you still on the waitlist, I honestly don’t know what will happen. I’m sure being a legacy is a factor, DarkTitanMan123, but I’m not sure what effect it will have at this point.

I must say that it’s been exciting over the past few weeks to still have the possibility of attending Harvard, but I must say that it feels great to have closure after waiting so long. I’m not devastated as I’ve been thrilled about attending Duke from the first minute I stepped on campus, and Duke is probably a much better fit for me anyway (weather, sports scene, proximity to home).

Good luck to those still on the waitlist. Maintain hope, but stay realistic.

Just to clarify, how many other people on this CC thread are still on the waiting list? I need to have some people with me in this boat!

I’m still on the list

My daughter is too!

OK, thanks for telling me! Please give me feedback, anyone, if you hear from Harvard! Good luck!

Anyone, any new news?! I’m so nervous, shouldn’t we be hearing soon? Doesn’t Harvard say they will be wrapping up Waitlist decisions by June?

I was on the list for a really long time. I was placed on the waitlist and then on the extended wait list two times over. At that point, there are maybe 5-10 people left. I got my final decision in mid/late July.

Interesting. Was it good news? I just don’t see why they would wait this long to tell you something and then give you bad news…

They keep some people on the extended waitlist in order to have choices should there be significant “summer melt”-when acceptees decide they cannot afford Harvard, or would rather attend uni closer to home, or want a gap year.

Some on the extended list will be viable candidates for late acceptance; others are part of the “courtesy waitlist”- such as legacy applicants- admissions wants their parents to feel those kids always had a chance, but just barely missed the cut.

That’s really unfortunate, considering I’m a legacy. Well, I still have hope!

Looking back at the last posts on the 2014 Harvard waiting list CC thread (very informative) suggests that all or almost all waitlist students get an answer by July 1 and that to the extent Harvard gets any openings over the summer, they can fill them from the z-listed students. Harvard admissions also denies the “courtesy waitlist” suggestion, as reported in various places.
